goSTOPS Dalhousie - Backpacker Hostel in Dalhousie, Kalatope R.F - Chamba, India

At first glance by looking at the picture or in reality everything about this hostel chain looks cool and perfect. The vibes and whole concept looked so positive and I was confused by average ratings. So if you think bad ratings are just because of the location then read my full review. When I entered the hostel and my room, everything looked the same as the pictures on the Maps. Although it was completely empty it looked good. I was staying in a separate room with an attached bathroom. There are approximately 6 floors in this hostel, 5 or 6 not sure. 3,4 at the bottom 2 floors at the top. So the luxury room was on the 2nd floor without any lift. Fine it's a hostel we have to deal with it. The room looked fairly clean, not perfect but clean. My main issue with this place isn't cleanliness but hygiene levels and bad infrastructure. I saw a weird 10 legged insect on the curtain. It wasn't fast so not moving too much so I wasn't bothered and I Thought I will ask room service to throw him out. I was tired and I pulled the cushion and saw 2 of the same insects beneath the cushion. Saw another insect beneath the second cushion. I immediately called room service. I told them to throw them out and why don't they use an insect killer. Before they were about to leave I thought I should check the blanket as well. Inside the blanket there were 3 similar insects found again. The worst part was the room service boy, when I asked him to deal with them, he threw those insects on the floor. I yelled I want them out of the room not out of my bed. This is their level of hygiene. Later mosquito kept biting me then I saw the entire structure It was made of panels, although the latest panels are good for durability but the panel they used caused so many gaps from the border so that's why mosquitoes and insects kept coming in the room. Holes everywhere in the panels and gaps at borders. As I said the cleanliness was fine but the hygiene level was bad. The floor was made of artificial wooden tiles, although wooden tiles are fine, these tiles had carved texture. Can you believe the hollow carved texture on the floor. So obviously they tried to clean daily but it wasn't possible since carved texture collects dust permanently so it was really unhygienic floor with permanent dust on the floor. It was a terrible stay for me there but it's not over yet. As I said the whole room was made of panels, including the roof, so imagine the sound of a pigeon nest at the top of my metal panels. It was way more noisy all day n night. Birds flapping hitting aluminium. These were poor infrastructure issues. Let's talk about location. The location is very beautiful but it is 6 km away from the main market and a little off road too. Although I arrived with my own vehicle, but it was still inconvenient. Now to service and concept. Since gostop is supposedly a chain, they have a universal menu in the whole chain, which is limited and you will find on maps too. So it was 10 Pm it was cold outside and we are in an isolated location I wasn't sure about going to dinner in the main market which will take up-down 45 mins at night in the jungle. I ordered paneer Butter masala(Paneer dish not sure if it was the same name) with malabar parantha and salad. To my horror they served me frozen packed food. I can't digest packed maida Parantha and Paneer. Paneer was hard as rock and couldn't digest parantha. Obviously it's frozen food not everyone can eat but they should have mentioned that in the menu that all items are packed with frozen food like maggi etc. At least the staff should have informed me that this meal is not fresh but frozen food served after heating in the microwave. Somehow there was a tiny general store next to the hostel and it was open at 11PM and I bought Parle G and asked for tea. So Tea and Parle G was my dinner after spending 330 Rs. If you are staying in that luxury room like me then goodluck jumping up down again and again because the room is on the 2nd floor and the restaurant is on the bottom floor without any elevator.

It was a great stay here in Gostops, Dalhousie. Mr Sachin; the Manager and his team are great. They are very cooperative and behave nicely. please do visit here. I stayed here for two days. It was an extremely peaceful and nice environment.

From the moment I entered the room, I was amazed by its elegance and attention to detail. The comfortable bed, amenities, and impeccable cleanliness surpassed my expectations. The friendly staff and ideal location added to the overall exceptional experience. Highly recommended!

Amazing experience at goSTOPS Dalhousie, common area is spacious, and you can enjoy with friends. You can play games and enjoy music at common area. Excellent property surrounding in mountains. Staff is very friendly and corporative.

I enjoyed my stay at gostops Dalhousie. It is located in a very peaceful and calm environment. Mr Sachin Thakur and his team are managing it very nicely. Very helpful and cooperative staff.

Isolated place, far from market. Unhygienice room with insects inside blankets and cushion. Packaged food only, if you want to eat fresh food you will have to travel 6 km

Had an amazing stay. Perfect place for workation. Location might not be ideal for everyone but it was one of the reasons for me to choose gostops. Best hostel I've ever stayed at!

I enjoyed my stay there but only faced two below mentioned problems:-1. The dinner provided by Gostops was good but not up to the mark. The daal Makhani offered by them was actually not daal Makhani it was like boiled or fried Daal....It was supposed to be like Thick layer of Gravy added with Butter. I also ordered the Dimsums provided by them and those were up to the mark I haven't seen that kind of Dimsums before.... 2. The Blankets provided by Gostops was not up to the mark come on Guys everyone knows Himachal Pradesh is so Cold Place and those kind of Blankets will not help to beat the Cold weather it was the property's assistant polite behavior that he offered me extra blankets otherwise it was not possible to spend the night in those blankets. So you guys should work on food quality and second Blankets provided in Dormitory I know that the rates were so low in Dormitory but money doesn't matter.....I will visit again in near future but guys you should work on it...Thanks and regards
