Gopachal Rock Cut Jain Statue - Jain temple in Gwalior - Gwalior, India

Going there was a different kind of experience. Most of the people just pass by these statues but they don't even bother to stop there and have a look at these beautiful architectural marvels. I will recommend this place. It is very peaceful and calm. You will love it.

Rock Cut Jain Colossi: We were aware of the forts and palaces in Gwalior. The Jain sculptures were a total surprise. On the way up from the plain to the fort hillock there are these rocks on both sides embellished with magnificent statues of Jain prophets and other iconography. When we saw these we were absolutely bowled over and our jaws dropped with awe. These Digamabar Jain statues established that there was a thriving Jain religious order in this state. The walls also had few small carvings depicting Hindu deities. This place looked like a highly well made set from an Indiana Jones movie.

Superb Caves and a small Jain Mandir Parking Available on road or inside depending on availability, morning time 9-11 am best. Drinking water available Small Trek is required to reach the caves This place is a archeological site but Since Jain Mandir is inside they don't allow shoes - you will have to trek on a rocky hard surface barefoot which was kind of hard on us. The guard said it was not mandated by govt but The Mandir people didn't allow us with shoes eventhough we said we have a 5 year kid with us and we will not enter any Mandir with shoes....

Nice monument. Gopachal Parvat is an attractive monument.It is an archaeologically important place. Here one can see rock-cut Jain sculptures that are carvings of Tirthankars. Gopachal Parvat has approximately 100 sculptures.This famous Jain pilgrim centre opens its doors as early as 7 am, which is the best time to visit, as temperatures are lower early in the morning.The entrance is free.

Though a religious place but yet an awesome place for historic lovers regarding the sculptures n statues

One of the Best Pilgrimage. So peaceful environment nd mind calming experience. As it went under Government Control, there was lack of cleanliness.

Awesome place, highly recommended. Personally, at the no. one place in my list of must visit places in Gwalior. A piece of our history. I would recommend a guided tour to get proper info. about those caves and rock cut monuments. Also keep in mind, you have to tour the whole place bare foot.
