GOA KAYAKING SAL BACKWATERS - Canoe & kayak tour agency in Dongrim, Majorda - South Goa, India

I did the kayak trip with other two friends. We have been Goa several times but went mostly the 'fun' locations. In this strip we decided to explore Goan Countryside. The backwater kayak was perfect in that perspective. We took the 4:30-6pm slot (in Dec) and it was perfect because the sun was going down, the wind was smooth and a little chilly. Satish, our guide was very polite, laid back and fun. Defintely recommend this experience!

Prakash and his team host amazing kayaking tours. We did the sal backwaters trip with them. Very professional. They give you a thorough brief of how to kayak, safety measures etc. and juice and water to keep yourselves hydrated. Their guide Santosh was great to take us to the lotus garden and helped us spot a lot of beautiful birds. Loved the whole experience and would recommend it to everyone. Few tips: Take a hat, sunglasses and apply good amount of sunscreen. Also your bottom will get wet so choose your clothing accordingly. There's no changing place here, we carried our towels to be kept in our car.

Prakash Alfonso the owner of Goa Kayaking met us on the dot at 9: am right next to "Kareems" hotel. Incidentally the bungalow (now a hotel) was built by a doctor who used to kayak in these water. The waters that form this little river, drain down from the neighboring hills during the monsoon. We were told the water passes all tests for purity, oxygen levels etc. However the water does not flow unless the dam upstream is opened. The lack of flow makes the water turbid with a lot of suspended mud in it. Prakash spends the first 10 minutes explaining (with photos) the various birds we were expected to see. The next 10 minutes were spent explaining the rowing and control techniques of using a Kayak. Preliminaries done, we were escorted to the Kayaks by two of his assistants who also guided us in the river and ensured we were safe. It takes a bit of strength to row in the water. There were 4 of us in our group including one lady of over 70. So if she could do it and enjoy the experience, so can you. We were charged Rs 2,200/head. Was it worth it? Hmmnn....my personal view is that it would have been awesome for Rs 1,000/head. But hey, this was December - peak of tourist season in Goa. He charges less for bigger groups. If you have a large group, bargain :) I can't explain the fun we had while kayaking in these waters - this is something you will have to experience for yourself. You may forget a lot of things, but you won't forget the fun you had while Kayaking. Go for it. Tips: Wear a hat, shorts (as your legs will definitely get wet), the seat of your pants are going to get wet so ideally don't carry anything except your camera/phone.

Great stuff! We took the 8am slot to see the most birds and avoid the main heat of the day and had a great time. A nice healthy way to spend a couple of hours in Goa

Awesome experience. This was my first experience Kayaking. The owner is experienced hosting kayaking and explained nicely how to do it. I would recommend this. They will provide water and juice after the ride.

It's good experience for doing kayaking in cola beach

Even though I am a novice in swimming and kayaking, I still had a Superb experience of kayaking in sal backwaters in south Goa as organised and managed by Mr Prakash. While kayaking I got to see many varieties of bird species along with dense mangroves and other trees on both sides of the pristine sal river. Throughout the kayaking, Satish guided us, he provided all details about birds, plants, various flowers including a variety of lotus flowers, thanks to Mr Prakash and Satish for making the overall experience memorable. I would highly recommend anyone to do this 2-3 hrs very affordable and very safe kayaking in South Goa.
