Gaumukh - Religious destination in Kedarnath - Uttar Kashi, India

This place is at 12000ft altitude. on a very rough surface. Proper precautions should be taken before you visit. Best time to visit before 15th October from September. Or April 2nd week till June last. You will need permission from Gangotri national park check post. Taking a guide would be a wise decision.

An absolute exhilarating experience to watch the birth place of Maa Ganga. But a point to remember that please take permission for tapovan trek else the forest department people will not let you cross the river using trolley at bhojvasa. Me and my friends didn't have the permission and had to go through the other route where the trail was missing due to landslide, we saw rock falls on our way, the mud was very slippery,had to cross the river on foot. It was very risky. Only with the help of God that we were able to go and come back safely. I don't recommend anyone to go without the permission( if you have a guide, he can take care of the trolley permission as well).

After 22KM trek from Gangotri temple taking several breaks in between and enjoying the beautiful bhagirathi valley we reached the gaumukh glacier the originating point of river Bhagirathi (Ganga) .the place has snow clad mountain all around and a glacier which is fully covered my stones and soil......This place has holy vibes all around.

Gaumukh glacier is the place from where the river bhagirathi originate it is also known as the birth place of river ganga. Gaumukh is the second largest glacier of India it is about 30km long and 4km wide. Gaumukh glacier trek is a moderate level trek of 18km from gangotri dham, situated at the altitude of 4023m above the sea level under the foothills of mt bhagirathi. This trek is full of adventure and rock fall zone , the forest of birch trees (bhojpatra) and pines (chir) looks so amazing. you may also encounter bluesheep (bharal) in your trek these are the animals which only founds in Himalayas.

Really lovely place near gangotri dham surrounding by mountains. This place called origin of bhaghirathi river. Gaumukh is 18 km far gangotri dham. You can go tapovan track from gaumukh. This is part of national park.

The origin point of Ganga. Probably one of the best trek that there is. Pleasant weather all the way. Scenic beauty and fresh winds all the way. It truly takes you on a journey of a lifetime. The Trell terrain pretty ok n can be done easily by any person of any age. Do carry your water supply with you. Also it gets pretty cold up there so carry your warmers with you. Best to carry least amount of luggage as it would only slow you down. When at Gomukh, just sit n relax n take it all in.

It is one of the most magnificent and pure places in the world. Divine and serine . However, there should be a limit to human intervention in the region, particularly for new buildings.

This place is amazing and really very peaceful.the trek is little bit difficult because the path is totally full of big rocks .but the place is like heaven.there are huge glaciers and ice block here and water is so chilled and frozen.The pout of the Gangotri glacier and the bhagirathi river is so huge from the water comes and every minute the glaciers breaks and falls from the mountain in the river so be careful where you stand . from bhojbasa it will take around 2.5hrs maximum to reach here.you will not find any shop from water or food on the way . it's totally untouched and natural.please take care of the environment by not throwing any garbage in the area.please keep it clean.
