I have given this place 2 stars because the restaurant was good and the spa (abhyangam massage) was excellent. Let me tell you about my other experiences and you decide whether it's worth staying here. Stayed here twice. First time was ok. Room was decent overlooking the pool, and infrastructure a utally worked - the faucets actually delivered hot water! The second time was a complete and utter disaster. Front desk staff appeared least interested in customer service. We got a cottage where the floors were dirty and no hot water at all. Informing the front desk about the hot water problem was useless - they sent a mechanic who made the problem worse by sloshing water all over the place. Our complaints about the situation seemed to fall on deaf ears to the point where we just gave up. Interestingly, there was no apology at check out - front desk staff seemed more interested in whether the contents of the minibar had changed since arrival! So, you want to stay here? I'd say the spa and restaurant are worth it. The rest of your stay will be plain and simple garbage delivered by a bunch of Yahoos claiming to be management and staff!

We had a very warm and hospitable stay at Gateway Chikmagalur. The standard room which we stayed in was spacious and clean with a lovely sitout. The restaurant food was good. The property is very green and an oasis of peace. The staff is very polite and helpful right from Ms Manjula and others at Reception, Mr Rahul who took us on a trek, the boys serving high tea, the Manager and other staff in the restaurant. A big thanks to all the staff for making our stay a very pleasant and positive one.

The rooms are very good. However, the food (taste) overall is below par and very disappointing. Coffee is terrible despite the property being in coffee country. It's either sour decoction or sour milk ... just consistently lacked freshness. We were forced to look out for a good meals. Alas, Chikmagalur doesn't have better options so we were stuck Staff is generally low energy and disinterested but polite and courteous. It required multiple feedbacks to get them to be attentive and be involved. Other than the rooms, this property doesn't make one feel the "Taj hotel experience".

Very nice cottages and rooms in the middle of trees and plants with forest atmosphere. Ample parking space and big swimming pool. Entire Staff team are very cordial. Lot of varieties in dinning and very tasty as well. Defintly worth staying. Special thanks to entire Staff for taking almost care the entire office team

It's always an experience to stay at such places. Gateway is no less in pampering its guests. We enjoyed live music alongwith magic show. The activities keep one busy throughout the day. The staff is very courteous. The food was great. The place definitely spoils you to visit again.

Not worth the price and not worth Taj seleqtion tag. Its a basic resort with a pool (dirty one which got cleaned after review). Not much amenities considering price. Basically a 3 star property. Update - team tried their best to make the experience better after the review... appreciate their effort. So service and hospitality -5/5 Property - 2/5

Great Property!! We had a wonderful experience here during our stay. The staff were very nice and the hospitality is at its best !! Very well maintained property with lots of greenery and a very quiet place. You can enjoy the calmness of nature. Rooms are well maintained and with all the amenities of a luxury hotel. It was value for money stay! Thank you!

The drive to the hotel is good and the roads are well maintained except the last small uphill stretch which leads to the hotel entrance: I found this to be in not so good a condition. The hotel is signposted from the road, so you will not miss the turning. We were greeted by Manjula (I believed that's her name) in reception. She was friendly and very helpful. We arrived slightly early, so Manjula gave us a leaflet / brochure detailing various in-house activities and nearby attractions. We took a fancy to the "garden tour" and thus went for it with one of the hotel boys (sorry I am unable to recollect his name and I only know that he is from WB and had joined just 2 months back). The "tour" was slightly disappointing because we didn't see as many trees and plants that we were expecting. The guy did his best to explain whatever he knew. We came across bamboo, lemon, coffee, pepper and teak trees. We got a free upgrade to the next level room (it's part of the package subject to availability). The room had 2 double beds and a lovely balcony. It was large and more than sufficient for the 2 of us. We found a dead hairy caterpillar on one of the beds: it pretty much freaked us out. However, considering the fact that the rooms are surrounded by lush vegetation, it doesn't really come as a surprise. There's not much to explore within the property and the property tour would be pretty much over in less than half an hour. They have a decent car parking space. Due to the low occupancy rate, they scrapped buffet lunch. The spread for the buffet dinner could have been better. We saw some malanad items that we hadn't seen anywhere else. They were OK. The taste of all items was average: nothing exceptional. Service was good, though. Overall, it was a satisfactory experience. Thank you team Gateway Chikkamagalur.
