Garudan Kavu Temple - Hindu temple in Tirur, Triprangode - Malappuram, India

This is an ancient temple located in Malappuram district..Garuda is rarely worshiped in Kerala which is famous for Naga worship. It is believed that even the deadly serpent evils can be removed by worshiping here. Maha Vishnu is the main deity and sub deity is Garuda.Ohm vainatheyaya namah is the mantra.

1,800-year-old Garudan Kavu, the only temple in India dedicated to Garuda. Garudan Kavu is on the road from Tirur to Chamravattom. As you cross the gopura (the gate tower) and enter the temple, there is a shrine of lord Mahavishnu in Koormavatara (manifestation as tortoise). Nearby is the shrine for Garuda, his conveyance.

Garuda Temple at Triprangode, located on Chamravattom Road, is the only temple in India dedicated to Vishnu's carrier, Garuda. Pilgrims en route to Sabarimala often stop at this temple. It also houses a rare shrine where Lord Vishnu is worshipped in his koorma (tortoise) avatar.

This temple is a must visit. One of the famous offering here is ilaneer(Tender Coconut) and Pazham(Banana Fruit- Kadali Pazham). If you wish to offer this, it has to be procured while coming to temple as it is not available at the temple and also there are no shops nearby. Hence purchase it while you are on the main road and come. Post that, a receipt should be taken by paying Rs.5/- to submit this offering for the deity.

There having an old village atmosphere with a big pond for swimming and bathing there having separate sections for women and men. There having a lot of Nagasilas (statue of snakes) along with sacred fig tree for worshippers. A greeny atmosphere in that temple makes relaxation in mind and positive energy to body. There having a small road to access that temple.
