The market is very conveniently located right on the main Gariahat intersection. However due to heavy encroachment of hawkers on the footpath, entry to the main market is difficult and crowded.
Once inside however, it holds huge spread of multiple business from daily use items, utilities, furnishings, provisions, vegetable and agri produce, poultry, - you name it.
Reasonable rates for all daily use items as well as clothings, furnishings, nursery, florists etc. All under one roof.
However maintenance and cleanliness is shabby and ventilation in the ground floor and basement sections very poor.
A huge collection in a very pocket friendly price loved to shop here.

There are some shops like Adi Dhakeswari who are very much money minded. I finalised one hite saree and paid for the same. Meanwhile while selecting another saree for family, I spoke at home and found that white saree is not traditionally appreciated to be worn. I asked the manager to replace the white saree with another one which was little lower in price but he didn't agree and asked to purchase the items of same value. It was shocking that I even didn't leave the shop and was looking for some other article, even then he didn't agree to change the billing. So, I left the shop and didn't buy other items from the shop bcoz of their behaviour
This is oldest and less crowded shopping street. The cost is comparatively low and you can get good deals upon bargain. The sellers are of good nature and interactive. I didn't sense the looting environment here. They themselves tell you if something isn't good or worth the purchase.
