Garchumuk River Side - Tourist attraction in Shyampur, Chandipur - Howrah, India

Wonderful river view...afternoon time little bit crowded.

Garchumuk is a popular picnic spot located in the district of Howrah, West Bengal. It is situated at the confluence of the Damodar and Hooghly rivers, and offers stunning views of the riverine landscape. The main attraction of Garchumuk is the Garchumuk Barrage, a massive structure that was built in 1937 to control the flow of water between the two rivers. The barrage is a popular spot for fishing, and you can also see a variety of birds and animals in the surrounding area.

This place is really very beautiful, specially in the rainy season. The view is outstanding.

The place has lost its charm after covid. Very dirty and no care taking in place.

Unique and upscale restaurant for Thrissur. Food choices are very different and very global and non-traditional. Something you don't expect to see locally. You have to order using phone after scanning a QR code which is very new and can be confusing to the menu loving traditionalists. Soup was fantastic. I didn't particularly like the Korean Fried chicken, it had way too many bones for my taste. Other dishes were great too. Great atmosphere and parking available in an adjacent lot.

Good place to hang out with family specially in winters. During other seasons this place isn't good enough for family picnic. Go for a boat ride for half or full hour depending upon your budget and look for the big jumping fishes like dolphin . If you are lucky you would definitely watch Dolphin over there. Other good thing is that many huge ships travel over the river carrying a large number of containers. It seems very cinematic when passes. If the deer park is open then enjoy. We found it closed in September.

Today I will talk about a 1 Day getaway location, where you can visit on a weekend. Relaxing on the lap of nature would surely gonna freshen up your mind, and you are gonna enjoy the serenity of the place by being far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Garchumuk, 58 Miles is situated at a distance of approx 58 km from Kolkata. You can either visit there directly by bus or by break-journey. We boarded an SER (South Eastern Railways) Midanpore bound suburban train and then deboarded at Uluberia station. Thereafter we boarded a shared auto and reached 58 Miles (Ulughata 58 Sluice Gate). Here a barrage is situated over the Damodar river to control the flow of the river, which is notorious for flooding during monsoon, and is accordingly named "The Sorrow Of Bengal". Here we visited a Deer Park, which also doubles up as a Mini Zoo. Then we had our lunch comprising of Chicken Biryani at "Chinese Hut". Next, we headed for Garchumuk Mohona (Estuary). Here the Damodar river meets Hugli (Hoogly) (Ganga) river. The places were extremely soothing and serene to say the least, and we enjoyed the day to the fullest.
