Gangtok Ropeway - Mountain cable car in Gangtok - East District, India

Visited last year and it's a must visit place for all the tourist visiting Gangtok. One can enjoy the beautiful and scenic view of the whole city from up top. Unlike the other cable cars this one doesn't have a seating but is large enough to accommodate more than 6-7 people. Would love to take the ride again when I happen to visit Gangtok next

The rope way was really great, we could see the entire view of Sikkim with beautiful and splendid scenery and chilling weather. One time experience that everyone should experience atleast once!! Highly recommended. But the waiting time is very high during tourist season but worth a try if you want to see the view of Gangtok.

I was going to skip this because 130 inr seemed like a lot for 8 minutes, however, I stayed in Gangtok longer than originally planned, and Fit it in. You get beautiful Birds Eye view going over rooftops and if the surrounding valleys, and if you're lucky to have a clear day, Kanchenjunga peak will be visible. You can get off on the other side but cannot renter unless you pay again, or go round trip. The stairs do not go to top. There is only the elevator so I question what safety measures are in effect in case of power outage, earthquake, fire, etc. Toilets are free.

It's a 10 minute ride to and fro. There is only car where 24 persons are allowed. It gets crowded and if someone enters late then they might not get the best views. Ticket sales start from 9 am to 6 pm on usual working days. Carry cash. There are two elevators each can carry upto 6 persons.

I enjoyed the Gangtok city view from the top but the riding time was very less. It takes 3 minutes to arrive from one side to the other.

I would recommend everyone to pretty much avoid this. It's more of a 5 minute joy ride rather than a spectacular experience. Plus it's expensive at 130 per person. Locals use it too. The views aren't that great and the wait is awfully long. 20 people are allowed at a time and it's a round trip or one way trip as per your decision. But if you are short on time avoid it.

Gangkot City is breathtaking, well organized and beautifully designed, offering lovely views.The ropeway operates day and night. Buy tickets for a two way ride and patiently wait in the queue for an unforgettable experience.

A must visit while in Gangtok. The whole town looks amazing from top. The rates are reasonable and there is a guard present in the cable car to prevent "excited" people from disturbing the balance. The operators take safety very seriously and are always on the lookout for adverse weather conditions. Highly recommended.
