Gangani is called the Grand Canyon of West Bengal. It's an amazing and beautiful place... and a very good picnic spot too. It is about 70 feet profound natural canyon created by erosion of shilabati river. You can travel from Garhbeta or Bishnupur or Joypur. There is a huge number of hudoo rock, but must be very careful not to skate near edges as the pebbles are quite slippery & unstable.
But this area isn't safe for single girl or woman.
Gangani Grand Canyon in West Bengal is an awe-inspiring natural wonder that left me speechless. The sheer magnitude of the canyon, formed by the Subarnarekha River, is a testament to the forces of nature. The intricate rock formations, complemented by the lush greenery surrounding the area, create a breathtaking landscape. The panoramic views from the canyon's edge are nothing short of spectacular, offering a sense of tranquility and grandeur. The site's cultural significance, coupled with its geological marvels, makes Gangani a must-visit destination. Nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike will find solace and excitement in this hidden gem of West Bengal.
Last time when I visited in 2021 it was quite dirty and the negligence were everywhere. But right now in 2023, the place is quite arranged. There is a Restaurant inside the picnic spot now. The steps are now newly built with railing. Plastic pollution is less. Happy to see the improvement.
Gangani, also known as the Grand canyon of West Bengal. Beautiful place, clean and maintained. Good for one time visit and photography.
Gangani is situated at Garbeta of Paschim Medinipur. It is called the grand canyon of Bengal because of of its structure. The beauty of this place is doubled due to the presence of gbe serene river Silabati. You can visit here during winter season. Lots of people come here for picnic with family, friends and students. But to feel the original beauty of this olace witb a non disturbing manner you have to come here on off season. Although people like me come here during the hot summer. Many hotels and restaurents available here.
As you follow the long winding staircase that starts at the road level, the scenery begins to change. Tawny rock formations rise up to meet the eye. Down below flows a sleepy river. As you reach the end of the staircase, you are transported to a strange world where roaming dinosaurs would not have surprised you.
Tucked away in the south-western corner of West Bengal is Gangani (or Gongoni), a nearly 70- feet deep natural canyon carved by the River Shilabati.
the place is popularly called the Grand Canyon of Bengal.
In the Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal, India, close to the town of Garbeta, there is a natural canyon called Gangani. Here, tall canyons constructed by the Silabati River over hundreds of years interrupt the plain terrain. The Gangani Canyon is a magnificent and unique sight that is popular with both locals and tourists after years of natural soil erosion and river movement.
Travel compared to foreign places....!
This is a popular place in our West Bengal where people think they are going to Arizona in America before going and compare it with a place in America after coming here.
Many people also feel that they have come to Arizona, America after coming here.
So I am also from America for you.
Gangoni also known as the Grand Canyon of West Bengal. It is located about 130 km from Kolkata near Garbeta Town a village of Poshim Medinipur district on the bank of river Silabati. If you are coming via train from Howrah you have to get down Garhbeta and take an auto or car to reach this place. Most beautiful natural place.
NB: Please don't throw plastic anywhere, keep the place clean.
