"The Grand Canyon of West Bengal" One day trip from Kolkata though the government recently opened cottages for tourists. You can find many food stalls over there, where you can find from Tea, Cold Drinks, Bread to Maggie etc.Recommend for you to go there at the winter season.Only river canyon of West Bengal made by river Shilabati over million years of erosion.
Only river canyon of West Bengal made by river Shilabati over million years of erosion, for tourism's encouragement local administration make stairs at the beginning of the canyon, except this no other encouragement came from the administration. There is no place for fooding, lodging, no washrooms at all. Sometimes back a cottage was made by the government but that was out of service. But as a tourist, I love the place to explore, good for hiking and photography. Entry fee nil.
Visited during Rainy season. Such a picturesque location. Do not forget to take umbrella and sunglasses to protect from sunlight and rains. Nice to explore the canyons. For four wheelers parking is charged, but two wheelers exempted from it. Government is building a tourist logde opened recently on 2022. Still developing the place. Roads are good. Good for spending half a day.
This place absolutely justifies it's made up name.... "The Grand Canyon of West Bengal". Original name is Gangani, located in Garbeta, East Medinipur, West Bengal. It's a natural canyon created by the erosion of River Silabati. This can be easily a one day trip from Kolkata though the government recently opened cottages for tourists. You can find many food stalls over there, where you can find from Tea, Cold Drinks, Bread to Maggie etc. The stunning view of this place is bound to be loved. Afternoon time is the best for photography. We went there on Summer but after experiencing the horrific heat, I recommend you to go there at the winter season.
Beautiful landscapes, good place to visit, preferably in winter
nearest railway station- Garbeta, west Medinipur How to reach- from Garbeta station to gangani by a reserved car, 20-30 mint time taken If you want to travel here from Kolkata or nearby places, firstly visit gangani, then through Jaipur forest visit bonolota resort, after lunch drop at bishnupur. Food shops are available for breakfast, lunch, evening snacks with a very reasonable rate. Main attraction- sunset at gangani
Scenery is great but the parking helper is a fraud,he charges 200 rs. for just 15 minutes of parking for our 4 wheeler, don't come here, scammer place.
Good but a bit overhyped place. Parking guys are looting and taking 150/- for even 10 minutes of parking. Strictly avoid this place during summer.
Beautiful, beautiful place to visit during winters. During off season, this place is calm and peaceful. You can have a little trekking experience climbing the canyon, or you can just sit and enjoy the serenity from the watchtower. There's a picnic sp
