Ganga Aarti Sthal, Haridwar - Featured Reviews (1652)
Lying at the heart of Haridwar, Ganga Aarti is a mesmerizing religious ceremony that gives praise to the River Goddess of Ganga, occurring every day as dusk descends over the holy city. Haridwar is a special place being one of India's 7 holy cities, and only second to Varanasi, it is the most popular place to watch the Ganga Aarti unfold. The Ganga Aarti takes place at Har Ki Pauri, a famous ghat meaning the feet of Lord Vishnu', located in the heart of Haridwar. It is believed that it is the precise spot where the Ganga leaves the mountains and enters the plains Thousands of pilgrims congregate here to watch Ganga aarti every day from 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. However, the numbers swell to lakhs during Makar Sankranti. River Ganga is revered as a goddess who once resided in heaven. Saint Bhagirath spent a long time in meditation to liberate his ancestors. His devotion pleased Lord Shiva so much that he asked Ganga to come to earth. However, He restrained her powerful flow. When the Ganga flowed over the ashes of Bhagirath's ancestors, they attained moksha (liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth). Following the same tradition, Hindus continue to offer the ashes of their deceased relatives to the Ganga, hoping for the river to enable them to attain moksha.
Watch this beautiful ritual November 23 in Haridwar and it was and beautiful experience. The locals did happily explain me what is going on and I thoroughly enjoy the evening. Sadly I was targeted by bunch of beggar kids and they were determined to stay with me the whole time even after I gave them money. It made it quite challenging to feel the spiritual dimension of the space.
Ganga Aarti is performed at Har Ki Paudi ghat on the river Ganges in Haridwar. Thousands of devotees participate in daliy aarti performed twice a day in the morning and evening. In this aarti, there is light and sound and the priests perform prayers with bowls of fire and the ringing of the temple bells. Devotees float "diyas" (small candles) and flowers, surrounded by the chanting of the mantras and the reflection of the lights off the surface of the flowing river, which is said to be blessed by the Goddess Ganga. There are 21 places from where Aarti is performed. There is a charge for performing the aarti and we paid 1,100 INR for performing the aarti. A puja is performed before the start of the aarti by the priest and the aarti last about 10 minutes. It took place after 6.00 pm when we visited. You can get auto to reach Har ki Paudi and for elderly persons can take e-rickshaw.
So peaceful and divine place. Attend the ganga aarti, you will get Goosebumps. Timing of aarti in summer is 5:20-25 am.
Moksha, Calm serene and so wonderful. The panda lobby is a menace. Somehow, place requires to be regulated. All that everyone out here expects is money out of you. One small 20 rupees dona of diya and flowers to float it on the waves can lessen your pocket by 2500 rupees. The Ganga aarti is such a serene event but it becomes a racket. Tje sthal should be properly marked and guides available but the small small mandirs around want you to sit there and offer money to them. It's like fleecing you outright. You are like an ATM, to them. One can pay but it should be clearly spelt out in a board etc. Overall one should feel peaceful and tune with the energy out there. But for the priests out there.
The Ganga Ghat Aarti Stahl is a special place with a peaceful feeling. Every evening at around 7 pm, a beautiful ceremony called "aarti" happens here. Many devotees come from all over the world and the country to see it. They come early to find a good spot to sit. The ceremony is really amazing, and the atmosphere by the Ganga river is calm and serene. It's nice to see so many different people come together to watch and enjoy this spiritual event. If you're looking for a peaceful and meaningful experience Once..this is definitely a place to go. Parking are available but you have to park vehicles 300m before the place. (Be Extreme careful from Mobile snatchers)
