Gandhi Memorial Place - History museum in Madurai - Madurai, India

The looks and design of the building is really great. There is really food facts/ information in the museum about colonialism and invasions of the britishers in india, freedom struggle and life of mk gandhiji. Those who are really interested in history must surely visit this place, else would not recommend this place. We have more literature on the walls than the artefacts. The place is quiet, clean, peaceful and there is no entry fees.

This place was hard to find. It was above Khadi Kraft showroom. They were greatly explaining about Gandhi and managing the place really well. It's almost empty. We were the first after a year of visitors. A good place to experience where Gandhi lived in Madurai during olden days.

GOOD LOCATION Ban plastic save our earth by using paper bag / cotton bags kindly avoid use plastic bags , plastic materials . Don't laminate the earth! Be a gentle man use paper bag discard plastic bag. Many innocent animals and birds eat plastic and die. Save our planet , Save our water and land living things. If you are kind so show your kindness towards reducing plastic. Go green ,no plastic ,every thing is fantastic.

A place of peace. Model Gandhi ji s hut is available. Try to visit museum between 9am to 5pm You can have a sound lunch near by museum. Ramana mess. Reasonable price. Had a juice for 10rupees only inside the museum

September 20 to 22, 1921 - The second trip marked by the historic gesture of the Mahatma taking to the loin cloth. He first stayed as Karumuttu Thiagarajar Chettiar's guest at his residence, 175 A West Masi Street. On September 21, he shifted to the residence of north Indian merchant Ramji Kalyanji on 251A West Masi Street. Also called the Sangoyi Maligai, it was from here that Gandhiji saw a poor peasant walking on the road with just a dhoti under his waist and decided to give up his traditional attire. The building currently houses Khadi Bhavan and a plaque there explains the significant event.

Great library with vast collection of books. And good archeological collections. Classic architecture. Best all is, it is the best place to spend with a book.
