In September 1503, the chief of Kochi granted permission to Afonso de Albuquerque to build Fort Emmanuel near the waterfront of the Arabian Sea. The construction was commenced on 26 September, and "it took the shape of a square with flanking bastions at the corners mounted with ordnance". The walls were made of double rows of coconut tree stems securely fastened together and with earth rammed firmly between; it was further protected by a wet ditch. The fort was christened on the morning of 1 October 1503 "Emmanuel", after the King of Portugal.

Great view from the beach.. Beach walking path is the best place for morning exercise ..pleasant sea gives a refreshing mood for the day. Must visit.

The place is very well connected to the local transport so you can visit easily by bus and ferry which is around 20rs and 5rs respectively.

Only the gun emplacement remains with the gun, it is a testimony to the past emplacement construction. Beautiful grafitti is in place for the same

Definitely a place to visit.. The fort ruins will give u goose bumps specially those who r interested in history.. Plus a beautiful beach to enjoy sunset
