In 1687, Maharana Jai Singh first constructed the lake but two hundred years later the earthen bund which formed the lake was washed away during floods, and thereafter Maharana Fatah Singh, in 1889, built the "Connaught Dam" on Lake Dewali to mark the visit of Duke of Connaught, son of Queen Victoria. The dam enlarged the lake, and it was later renamed, Fateh Sagar Lake.

Fateh sagar is located deep inside the city , just between nagori gate and gaddhon ki gali area on the other side. There's a famous temple Ramanuj Kot located just adjacent to it which is amazing in spiritual vibes. The sad part is neither govt nor the people are taking care of Fateh Sagar, it is dirty as hell and smells greatly bad. Main reason behind it is the toilet ducts of nearby houses are opened in it. Hope government renovate this historical place.
