Falgu Ghat, Gaya - Religious destination in Gaya - Gaya, India

One of the most important places of Hindus: religiously, mythologically, historically, culturally; yet it remains quite under developed! This river flows in the eastern side of Gaya city near the Vishnupad Mandir and flows mostly underground The Gaya Rubber Dam is also located in this river It overflows during monsoon season and is a sacred river for Hindus The religious activity of 'Pind-dan' or last rites for our deceased ancestors is performed here at the banks of river Phalgu. This is done so as the the soul wanders after death until pindadan, or religious service seeking salvation for the dead from the cycle of rebirth, is performed.

Phalgu is a river which flows past Gaya. The river bed or the ghat is almost dry, but when you slightly dig the sand you will find the water. the Falgu River carries water only during the monsoon season. At other times the river bed is externally dry. However, one may find water on digging the river bed. It is said that Ma Sita had cursed Falgu to flow as underground river. The Ghat is quite dirty.

Specially build for giving Pindo, many people came here to give pinds to their dead relatives and others.. well maintained by Pondas. There are enoromous Ponds ,they charge to every devotees to wants to give Pindo, and help them to arrange required things...but be serious...they are always ready to deceive you....

The place which has historical and spiritual importance and the water level in the river is very low,There is so much crowd during Pitru Paksha and there is less crowd on normal days.
