One of the most important places of Hindus: religiously, mythologically, historically, culturally; yet it remains quite under developed! The place needs serious urban planning, urban design and architectural interventions. Also solid waste management and water supply and drainage planning requires to be done. The existing structures are old and in good condition however. The place has a different aura about itself. You feel peace of death amidst the chaos of life! You encounter the ultimate truth: death with a firm belief in afterlife. You experience blessed satisfaction from liberation of your ancestors, and all life. Information: approach roads to the place are narrow and winding. Traffic condition is abject. Parking is available. One has to walk a little to get to the ghats, after crossing the temple. Shops selling ritualistic materials (puja samagri), souvenirs, food etc. abound. Jai Gaya ji!
This river flows in the eastern side of Gaya city near the Vishnupad Mandir and flows mostly underground The Gaya Rubber Dam is also located in this river It overflows during monsoon season and is a sacred river for Hindus The religious activity of 'Pind-dan' or last rites for our deceased ancestors is performed here at the banks of river Phalgu. This is done so as the the soul wanders after death until pindadan, or religious service seeking salvation for the dead from the cycle of rebirth, is performed.

At other times the river bed is externally dry. However, one may find water on digging the river bed. It is said that Ma Sita had cursed Falgu to flow as underground river. The Ghat is quite dirty.
