Ezhimala was the capital of mushika vamsham, now present day kannur. This kingdom was one of the powerful kingdom of Kerala in the ancient period like Tamilakam or Sangam age. There is also one more story that this was the small portion of drona giri of Himalayas fell down when God Hanuman was taking that peak to rameshwaram. It's believed by Hindus that mritasanjeevani is still present in this mountain. The soil of Ezhimala is different from the surrounding and it's similar to shivalik range of Himalayas . Ezhimala was a strategic place from ancient period itself, chera , chola, and pandya where always interested in ezhimala. Now in present day also it's the most strategic place for our Indian navy.
