Beautiful cave with Lord Buddha statue in the centre. Main hall is relatively dark. Lot of carvings on the sides and roof. There are rooms carved out on upper floors too. Per local guides, main hall has a balcony with window strategically built such that sunlight from rising Sun goes through it and illuminates face of Lord Buddha.

The Viswakarma Cave is also locally known as the Sutar-ka-jhopra (Carpenter's hut). The local carpenters visit the cave frequently and worship Buddha as Viswakarma, the patron of their craft. This is the only chaitya in these series of caves, constructed around 7th century AD. This cave is one of the most magnificent caves in Ellora. The cave is entered through a gate, cut in the natural rock, which leads into a courtyard, with cells on both sides arranged in two storeys. Through the courtyard, one reaches the shrine of Lord Buddha, a typical chaityagriha. The chaitya once had a high screen wall, which is ruined at present. The shrine is 81 feet long 43 feet wide and 34 feet high. The hall is divided into a nave with side aisles by 28 octagonal pillars, each 14 feet high. At the far end of the cave stands a huge stupa nearly 27 feet in height and 16 feet in diameter. It has simple circular base, hemispherical dome and a square capital. Typical to a Mahayana construction, it has a large frontispiece nearly 17 feet in height attached to it, on which a11 feet colossal Buddha seated in a preaching pose. A large Bodhi tree is carved at the back. The hall has a vaulted roof in which ribs (known as triforium) have been carved in the rock imitating the wooden beams. Even the wooden pins at the joints of beams and lintels are imitated in stone. The friezes above the pillars are Naga queens, symbolic of the monsoon, as well as dwarfs as entertainers, dancing and playing musical instrument

The Vishwakarma (Cave 10) is the only chaitya griha amongst the Buddhist group of caves. It is locally known as Vishwakarma or Sutar ka jhopda "carpenter's hut". On either side are pillared porticos with chambers in their back. The pillared verandah of the chaitya has a small shrine at either end and a single cell in the far end of the back wall. The corridor columns have massive squarish shafts and ghata-pallava (vase and foliage) capitals. The main hall is divided into a central nave and side aisles by 28 octagonal columns with plain bracket capitals. In the end of the chaitya hall is a stupa on the face of which a colossal 3.30 m high seated Buddha in vyakhyana mudra (teaching posture) is carved. A large Bodhi tree is carved at the back. The hall has a vaulted roof in which ribs have been carved in the rock.
Ellora Cave 10:- It is called Vishwakarma cave (Lord Vishwakarma is believed to be the world's first engineer and architect) or Carpenter's cave because its large ceiling looks like a wooden ceiling but actually it is made by cutting stones. The light that is falling on the roof above is not any electric light, it is from the light coming from the skylight above the door of the cave. Where Buddha ji is sitting comfortably in his meditation.
Magnificent!!! Nice place..Need almost a full day to visit all the caves. Try to visit in the morning so that you will get enough time to see all the caves.Parking is also available. they maintained cleanliness in all the caves. This is Cave No 10. Also known as Vishwakarma cave. Some say this is carpenter's cave because of it huge roof structure resembling wooden beams. But actually it is rock cut. One will be amazed to witness the days of the life of budhha depicted here in stone carvings. This is a must visit place in Ellora.

Architecture of the temple is good, built of red stone. Good thing about this temple is we can go inside of shrine and touch Shivaling and performance pooja unlike other temples where we get to get the idol for micro seconds.
