Dwarka on the western tip of the Kathiawar Peninsula is clubbed with the holiest sites in India - the Char Dhams that include Badrinath, Puri and Rameshwaram. It is believed that Lord Krishna arrived here from Braj in Uttar Pradesh to build the city. The temple was established by his grandson. It is at the cusp of the Gomti River and the Arabian Sea, providing a scenic backdrop to the spiritual site. It is said that Dwarka was submerged under the sea six times and what we see now is its seventh avatar. The temple itself has a fascinating legend. The original structure was destroyed by Mahmud Begada in 1472, and subsequently rebuilt in the 15th-16th century. It was also feted by Adi Shankaracharya, the 8th century Hindu theologian and philosopher. The temple is good and you can't carry your mobile, wallet and belt. Please leave it in your car or room.We reached there around closing time at night (9.30pm) and had darshan in 10 minutes. The next morning we went again at 6.30 am but the queue was for 2 km to enter the temple. So please plan accordingly. But the temple surroundings lack basic maintenance. You will struggle a lot to cross the unclean streets before you enter the temple. You need to cover your nose due to the stinking smell. Please go with your chappels till the temple entrance and leave it outside in the shops or else your feet will go for a toss. The administration needs to up the cleanliness surrounding this beautiful temple to give good memories and experience for the devotees.
If you are visiting first time then avoid during weekend and public holidays Car parking is available which is far away from temple but self you can by your risk near by temple area Don't trust anyone inside temple for VIP Darshan, 5-10 minutes inside the temple and you can easily

Dwarka is one of the main Chardhams of India. The present temple of Dwarka was built about 1000 years ago, which is a very beautiful and unique example of architecture. There is an image of Lord Dwarkadhish Shri Krishna who is worshiped here as the king of Dwarka. Along with the sight of a very nice and huge temple, the pleasure of the beach gives a different kind of feeling. Everyone should visit here.
