Dr B C Roy award is famous in Doctor Community. The statue is situated at Central Park metro area. Small greenery maintained around the statue We cannot go near to the statue. Not a very good place to stop and see. May be seen while passing by.
This excellent statue of prominent Doctor and the Chief Minister of West Bengal was erected at Karunamoyee, Salt Lake, Kolkata. He was the creator of modern West Bengal, after Independence. It's amazing that his date of birth and date of death are same i.e. 1st July and now it's celebrated as Doctor's Day in India.
He was born on 1st July, 1882 at Bankipore in Patna. His father was Sri Prakash Chandra Roy and mother was Smt Aghori Kamini Devi. He achieved FRCS and MRCP degrees simultaneously. He entered in politics in 1925. He was a friend and physician of Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He played a great role in the Civil Disobedience Movement in 1929. He was arrested on 26th August, 1930. He was a Mayor of Calcutta Corporation during 5th April, 1931 to 9th April, 1933. He did a lot of work in Corporation like improvement of water supply and lighting, roads, free education and medical aid. He was a great administrator. He was a famous doctor. He practiced at nominal fees. He agreed to take responsibility of the Chief Minister of West Bengal on the request of Mahatma Gandhi. He was the Chief Minister during 1948 to 1962. Then few lakh refugees took shelter in West Bengal from the East Pakistan and there was law and order problem in West Bengal. He tackled the situation smartly. He had a great role for establishment of Jadavpur T. B. Hospital, Chittaranjan Seva Sadan, Kamala Neharu Memorial Hospital, Victoria Institution, Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital etc. He had a very good relation with the Prime Minister of India, Shri Jaharlal Neharu. He established five new township, Durgapur, Kalyani, Bidhannagar, Ashoknagar and Habra. He established several educational institutions. He was conferred the Bharat Ratna in 1961. He gifted all his properties for the service of mankind. He was an unmarried. He died in harness on 1st July, 1962 in Kolkata. 1st July is celebrated as National Doctor's Day.

It is a nice statue in front of a waterfall. The writing on the wall behind reads "We look forward to the future with confidence.". Most appropriately, it is located at centre of the town that he planned, as Chief Minister.
The statue is located near the Karunamoye bus stand. It is well maintained and is a good to visit.
