This divine place has its own charm. Even the drive leading up to it from any side is beautiful with green fields - paddy, banana, mangoes etc. The moola vigraha is Mahavishnu in the Anatha Shayana posture (asleep) along with Bhumadevi (mother earth). Still rustic, right on the banks of the river Cauvery, kept generally well and not usually crowded this is a wonderful place to travel to, visit and meditate. Don't miss the sweet appams that the family in the house right opposite the temple makes. Happy visiting.

Nice Vishnu Temple. In Srirangam, they asked you to move, but Purohit invites you to come forward and see the idol from head to toe..

Appakkudathaan Perumal Temple is located on the banks of river kaveri and is one of five Panchranga kshetram in Koviladi, Tiruchirapalli. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the Divya Desams--the 108 temples of Vishnu revered in Nalayira Divya Prabandham by the 12 poet saints or Alvars. The temple has a three-tiered rajagopuram facing west and an elevated structure approached through 21 steps. The main deity is depicted in a reclining posture called pujanga sayanam, and he is shown holding the holy pot in his right hand. Entire temple architecture is beautiful and atmosphere inside temple is calm and serene. No crowd at all. The temple has four daily rituals, the first begins at 8:30 a.m. and the last at 8 p.m. Must visit for peace and prosperity in life !!!

I got to see the Perumal up close so thats a thumbs up. We also bought the Appam (appakudutha - meaning The Appam Giver) for Rs10/- . Very oily appam. Tasted like made from dalda but not sure.

Appakkudathaan Perumal Temple or Thirupper Nagar, is a Hindu temple located in Koviladi, a village 10 miles (16 km) from Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India. It is dedicated to Vishnu and is one of the Divya Desams--the 108 temples of Vishnu revered in Nalayira Divya Prabandham by the 12 poet saints or Alvars. This temple is located along the banks of the Cauvery River and is one of the five Pancharanga Kshetrams located on the banks of the Cauvery River. The temple is believed to be of significant antiquity, with contributions at different times from the Medieval Cholas. The temple is built on an elevated structure and is approached through a flight of 21 steps. The rajagopuram (the main gateway) has three tiers and the temple has a precinct around the sanctum.[1] Ranganatha is believed to have appeared for king Upmananya and sage Parasara. The temple has four daily rituals; the first begins at 8:30 a.m. and the last at 8 p.m. There are four annual festivals on the temple's calendar; its chariot festival celebrated during the Tamil month of Panguni (March-April) is the most prominent of these.

It is a Divya Desam temple and one of the Panch Ranga kshetra. In garbgagriha there is huge vigrah of reclining Vishnu and Bhu Devi is his consort. Rishi Markandeya is sitting on the side and one hand of Vishnu is on Markandeya's head. Unique aspect of temple is that during night puja sweet appam is offered as navaidhya to Lord. These are available for Rs 10 per piece for devotees.
