Be careful, if you are a non-Indian, you have to find the touristic entrance. Otherwise, everyone will look you as if you are an alien. Also, the neighborhood is a really poor one, be careful and respectful, I'd say. I went through very shady streets and even as a big guy, I wasn't comfortable. However, inside, the people working there were so nice. As soon as you smile at them, they'll smile back, ask you where are you from and offer you tea. Worth visiting

Overwhelming amount of labor being done here. Washing in one machine, spinning in another, carrying the laundry in, moving the wet laundry to the drying lines, ironing. Everything gets a tag tied to it identifying the owner. Amazing.
Interesting place for sure. If you are in Mumbai, you definitely should go there. We visited twice, unfortunately both times (11 am and 1pm) we could see only several people hanging the laundry. I suppose, if you want to see handwashing, you need to go there early in the morning.
The place is a popular tourist spot and the previous government has made ample provisions to install a viewing deck overlooking the dhobi ghat space. Mahalakshmi station is right next to this place and is well connected. There is no parking space available nearby, so plan your travel accordingly. The viewing deck is small and will get crowded if large groups gather around.
Incredibly interesting place. This is how you feel the local culture. It's good to understand how things are done here and it's actually really interesting sight. Very known place on Mumbai and, if you ask me, a must go in India and this area.
It's very interesting to look at but only available from a distance. I realise that it's a workplace but there must be a way of mixing a visit experience as well - and potentially earning good income for the ghat workers. The juxtaposition of those enormous apartment blocks just beyond the laundry is quite interesting.
