A double track was already present up to Talcher town for facilitation of movement of coal . The Talcher - Sambalpur rail line was sanctioned in 1983 construction of the Talcher - Sambalpur line began in 1987 and ended in 1996 and the line became operational in 1998 . It handled more than 2000 passengers daily . It has direct train to New Delhi , Mumbai and also connects to western odisha to the state captial Bhubaneswar . It was a small station with one men's waiting hall and one women waiting hall and ticket counter available . This railway station should be developed like other railway station of odisha . Dhenkanal railway station is a great place . it is always kept neat and tidy . The staff is courteous and helpful . There is no purified chilled drinking water facility . Bathroom and pay and use toilet are closed always . Poor transportation system you have to look for food items outsides the station area and walk about 1 km . Station development work in progress and station is found to be renovated now please make it fast to good service .

One of the backward place in Odisha with poor communication facility but the natural scenic beauty is eye taking pleasant and awesome because u can see clouds touching the hills as like hill stations although it's not hill station but little bit anyone can feel like hill station especially in moonsoon season.

Dhenkanal Railway station is a great place. It is always kept neat and tidy. The facilities are convenient. The staff is courteous and helpful. It is well connected and easy to reach. All in all, it is one of the best railway stations in the area. Need more improvement but location is good.

Very poor communication / Don't expect any facilities including drinking water. Always All trains are almost late by more than one hour. This route has Goods Train on priority & even Vande Bharat is following behind them.

Gents returning room,rest room are available but railway staff tell, it's not available. Bathroom and pay and use toilet are closed always.
