It's a beautiful monument. It eludes a sense of peace when you are there. The outskirts of the monument has been plagued with commercial activities like every other place in India but it's worth a visit. The mornings are very hot. In order to escape the heat, you may visit this place in the evening.
Nice historical place on a hilltop on the outskirts of Bhuvaneshwar. This is near the place where the famous battle of Kalinga took place. The legend is that it is on this hillock that Emperor Ashoka realised the futility of war.
The road uphill ends in a small parking lot surrounded by outlets selling traditional items, food etc...the typical scenario in any tourist spot. Many people also bring along food and have picnics among the woods in the hillside. From this parking lot, there is a short wall up the steps to the Stupa.
Given the limited space, parking for cars is a issue. Lots of people park on the roadside due to this.
They have provided a lift for the senior citizens and handicapped. That is a very good initiative that I have not seen in other such tourist spots. They have a public urinal as well with paid service charging rupees 10 per person.
From the courtyard of the stupa, you can see a nice view of the river downhill. The Stupa is magnificent and has beautiful murals. It also has the customary lion statues on all four sides.
Overall a nice place to go.

This place gives peace of mind went there with whole family . All of us loved this place . We went there without arranging our lunch, and there was no hotel near to this place . But on the foot of mountain there is a picnic spot you can enjoy there with school or college groups . What an amazing breeze that was! All of us were overwhelmed but we spent there only little time because a of were hungry and we had to return also.
We went there during October and it was peak season. The place was really crowded. I recommend to visit this place during off season, when the crowd is thinner, then you can feel the peaceful atmosphere around also the peace pagoda was a great work of art. Highly recommended if you're going for side scene visit from Puri or Bhuvaneswar!

This place is dedicated to Buddha. A very beautifully built structure and it's being maintained. There is light show daily in evening. There is a entry fee of Rs. 100 for vehicles.

A great serene place, however it is always bustling with spectators and tourists. On weekends and holidays, the rush is very more. The place has been renovated nicely. One has to park his or her vehicles below the mountain range at a designated parking spot and then walk up to the Stupa. The atmosphere at the top is surreal as one can get a great view of the adjoining areas. There are small shops selling variety of things in and around the Stupa. It is recommended to avoid visiting the Stupa on weekends or holidays for a better visiting experience.
