Inspiring historic fort to visit, iconic beautiful Atrcetectureal yadav period temples.
Absolute must visit if you like a slightest bit of history. Slightly more than 2 hours from Pune, the road is pretty straightforward. But drive via Daund instead of blindly following Google maps. Later after Shivaji Maharaj in 1689 When Sambhaji Raje was captured at Sangameshwar he was brought to Bahadurgad, as a prisoner. This the fort where Sambhaji Raje and Kavi Kalash were subjected to a horrific torture when they did not accept to be converted to Islam. Bahadurgad has been renamed as Dharmaveergad in the memory of Sambhaji raje.
A very historical place and unknown to many is the sad part of this place. This place have archeological monuments like Swami Narayan temple dating back to Yadav's dynasty. Mallikarjun temple, of Shivji is there. Not in good conditions today but it's worth knowing it. Place is located in Pedgaon near to Daund. Reached by road and very quite place to spend a day. The work done by Shivdurg organisation to preserve the history is highly appreciated and requesting to more people to come forward to support their noble cause. This place have a beautiful view of Bhima river.
Beautiful Place with beautiful temples . Wish they are restored.
Under development.. But still much to explore.. You may need 1-3 hours to explore the complete area.. Best time is to go early morning as you need to walk more.. Approaching roads are not good so better avoid going after 4/4.30pm.. I saw water cans kept by few but nothing available to eat.. Some groups can arrange for meal but that too needs to be informed earlier.. Plan accordingly.. Want to see something new, you will be satisfied for sure..
The place is not well maintained. This is the place where our great warrior Chh. Sambhaji Maharaj sacrificed his life. This is a place of worship. Government has done nothing to keep the sanctity of this place.
Major part of the fort is ruined. Only two or three temples are protected under Indian Archeology Department. Some efforts are being taken by local youth for restoration of the main premises of the fort.
This place in on the bank of Bhima River. It has 5 ansient Hindu temples beautifully carved out of granite stone. These temples must be minimum 1000 years old and have resemblance to Ajintha and Verul temples. Archiological Survey of India should takeup activity to restore the lost glory of these before we loose those completely.
