The royal cenotaphs, devikund sagar is the cremation ground of bikaner royal family. The overall design and structure of the chhattris (cenotaphs) for the prince and the princess are built in red sand stone while few are in white sanmarmar. Very Photogenic place where you will like the architectural patterns, shadows and highlights during the day time. If you are travelling to bikaner do add this to your travel list.
A lovely place barely 15 minutes away from Bikaner. Best time to go is post 4 P.M when the sunlight hits the cenotaphs just perfectly for amazing photos. They charge about Rs20/person/Indian and make you take off your shoes before entering the complex, some flip flops are provided free of charge and were a relief to me. Many of the cenotaphs have remmenants of amazing paintings and can still be appreciated, the locale is very peaceful and sublime.
Among the best places to visit in Bikaner, Devi Kund Sagar has a prominent position. It is located 8 KM in the east city. It is popular since the members of ruling family of Bikaner subsequent to Jet Singh, the great grandson of Rao Bikaji have been cremated here. Here you can see a reservoir which has royal cenotaphs on the either sides; cenotaphs of rulers of Bikaner dynasty from Rao Kalyan Singhji to Maharaja Karni Singh. Chhatries or cenotaphs of 22 Saties of the royal family prior to Maharaja Gaj Singh. You can see a cenotaph of a male as well. The architectural talents displayed on these cenotaphs are the real factors that attract more visitors toward here. Surat Singh's cenotaph is built completely in white marbles exhibiting a stunning beauty. The entire place is beautified by spectacular paintings. Nice cemetery in Rajasthan with good architecture.
This place is slightly outside of town. The place is cenotaph for royal family of Bikaner. The old chatries are large and done with detailing whereas new ones are simple. Overall good place for photography and well maintained. desirable place for tourists to see
