Dariyakhan Ghumat - Mosque in Ahmedabad - Ahmadabad, India

Visited Mar 2020. The largest tomb in Gujarat, made entirely of brick. Worth visiting. Badly needs maintenance, in fact I'm surprised it's still standing. Many intrusions by locals. Very difficult to photograph properly. See attached pics.

If we talk about the huge brick tomb in Ahmedabad there are only two huge tombs are there. One of the very few bricks built tombs in and around Ahmadabad is A'zam and Mu'azzam Khan at Vasana on the road to Sarkhej. Another tomb is Dariya Khan's Tomb or Dariya Khan's Ghummat. Dariya Khan's Tomb is situated, about 1 km north of the Delhi Darwaja(towards Shahi Bagh). The tomb of Dariya Khan was built in 1453 during his lifetime. Dariya Khan was a talented minister and advisor of Mahmud Begada. The tomb, the largest in Gujarat, is of brick with nine feet thick wall unlike other tombs in Ahmedabad which are made of stones. The tomb is made of the true arches and domes which create a cavernous interior as in Turko-Persian Islamic architecture. Dariya Kan lived in Dariyapur Area and darwaza named after him known as Dariyapur Darwaja. So what are the measurements of this tomb? Interior Measurement: 37.19 meters by 36.58 meters Corridor: 5.80 meters wide Brick size: 1.83 meters thick Isn't it huge? There are five arched entrances on each face and is itself surrounded by an outer wall. The sepulchral chamber measures approximately 15.24 meters square and is roofed by a great central dome. Two circular stairs in the east front wall lead up to the roof while two others lead to the corners, from where they lead on to the dome of the tomb. The marble tomb of Darya Khan seems to have totally disappeared but for the headstone, it has been reconstructed with a modern arched chamber over it with a wooden railing around the grave. There are fourteen other tombs within the chamber. The monument has suffered much due to ravages of time and misuse for residential purposes.

The tomb of Dariya Khan was built in 15th century during his lifetime. He was a Commander, talented minister and advisor of Mahmud Begada. Sultan Mahmud Begra or Mahmud Shah I, was the most prominent Sultan of Gujarat Sultanate. Raised to the throne at young age, he successfully captured Pavagadh and Junagadh forts in battles which gave him his name Begada. The tomb, the largest in Gujarat, is of brick and lime with nine feet thick wall (274 cm,typical thickness of wall for normal hours is around 23cm) unlike other tombs in Ahmedabad which are made of stones. There is a large central dome surrounded by sixteen smaller domes and there are five entrances on each of the four sides of the structure.

Was nice experience as a space analyser .... biggest brick dome in Asia maybe but definitely in India...the building was made in 1 night as I got to know...had a chance going to the top terrace...fun experience

It's a one of the best historical place in Shahibag Behind Commotion of police office Ahmedabad, and also Mahakali Mata Temple behind this place it's also old eprox 100 and more years.

There is only one worthy thing we can see and it is the dariyakhan ghumat. Otherwise there is nothing to explore.
