Dargah of Shah Ata - Featured Reviews (37)
The dargah is located beside the dhaldighi in Gangarampur town. The place is surrounded by wire and tin fence. Inside the dargah is well protected by collapsible gate. Some old stones were engraved by sculptures and Arabic languages. Though the place is dargah but budhdhist pattern of architecture is noticed here.
Dargah of Shah Ata is a historical building situated in Bangarh, Gangarampur, West Bengal, India. It is adjacent to Dhaldighi Lake. The building was probably constructed in the 14th century, on the site of a temple dating to the Pala Empire (8th to 12th century). The building is a brick and stone mausoleum, the burial site of Mollah Atar-Uddin or Shah Ata. The brick-built Dargah was built probably in c.14th Cent. AD. It consists of a square Mausoleum now roofless. The Mausoleum encloses the grave of Mollah Atar-Uddin or Shah Ata. The lower portion of the structure is built of stone. It is actually a mosque with niches and not a Dargah. There are four inscriptions in Arabic fixed on the wall. Traces of older remains indicate the existence of a temple of the Pala period at the site.
A historical place of Gangarampur. All sculptures are awesome and structure of the whole thing is really genius.
Historical place in Gangarampur.
A historical monument which belongs to mediaeval period. It is situated on the bank of Dhaldighi lake. You can go this place from Gangarampur BDO office. You have to take the help of Google to reach here as it is not a popular place. It is preserved by ASI.
