Crust & Core, a special training cum cafe, started in 2018, is a livelihood initiative by Iswar Sankalpa, an NGO working with people suffering from psychosocial disabilities since 2007. Stepping into this cozy cafe, as I comforted my seat, came in a lady with a grey apron and a red bindi on forehead serving a glass of water. She is Kamla, a mental health survivor who is now a fully trained chef in this cafe. On asking further, she says it was her passion for cooking that pushed her towards this work. Her joy seemed no boundaries when me along with my friends demanded, "Kamla di, ekhankar tomar shobcheye pochonder dish ta banao, amra khabo." Few minutes later, she came up with a plate of Chicken Quiche saying, "kheye kemon laglo obosyoi janabe." We took the first bite and OMG, that perfectly fluffy egg filling with layered chicken & cheese, what a lovely piece of art! Ended up ordering another one trying other items like Chicken Puff, Grilled Chicken Sandwich & White Sauce with refreshing beverages. Blown away with food quality that too, at such affordable prices, even the bakeries like Eggless Brownie, Lemon Tart, Mudpie and Fudge Pastry takes a bow. That invisible million dollar smile could be sensed under her mask easily when we plauded her for cooking skills. This cafe often organise exhibitions, stalls in corporates, pop-up, live music, costumised orders, haats etc. Apart from this, your eyes will move into a small corner of this cafe shelved with handcrafted stationeries, home decors, decoupages made by them under vocational programme, which are kept for the purpose of purchasing. A highly recommended place that will surely melt your heart and make you to say "DEKHA HOBE TOMAY AMAY" with a smile in your face for sure. Absolutely fell in love with their bakeries here. "We can't help EVERYONE, but everyone can help someone!" So come, let's together make them realise that "IT'S OK TO NOT BE OKAY. JUST DON'T GIVE UP! It's important to aware people about the fact that 'Mental Illness' is not a LIFELONG BURDEN. Let's give them a chance to come out victorious.
A quite cafe tucked away in the lane of Chetla with excellent hospitality. The white sauce pasta is to die for and all their desserts will make you fall in love.
The standard of food is excellent, probably among the best in Kolkata. Hidden in a small lane, next to the chetla police station. This is run by residents of Iswar sankalpo, who used to be homeless women and men rejected by family and society.
So this cafe is what we know as an Unknown Gem. Truely guys, you gotta need to check out this new joint in town. Located at Chetla near Ahindra Mancha,this cafe is a true combination of peace, yummy food and a proper place for alone time. Opened about a year ago this cafe really serves you some of the best dishes. People do take out your time and visit this really awesome place. If you're a chocolate addict then you must have the choco mud-pie and their brownie. Trust me your sugartooth will be highly satisfied. Also do taste their Chicken Kish and satisfy your hunger with something phenomenal. And also don't forget about the yummy white sauce creamy penny pasta. Trust me you're not gonna regret about them. If you're a coffee lover then do check out their cappuccino that is actually delivered to you something crazy art which you're bound to love.And oh yes what should I tell you about their service and ambience. People over there are tremendously friendly with a heartwarming attitude. And do you wanna know something extra??? Then I must tell you that it is a social venture and who wants to miss a chance to be a part of something so special. Do come and spend some time over here. I bet you won't regret.
