Easy to reach wildlife sanctuary in South Goa, good place for birding and to be with d nature. Guides r not available but 2/4 wheelers r allowed inside d park. Spotted a monitor lizard, great hornbill, spotted deer, racket tailed drongo, paradise flycatcher male, minivets, several smaller birds and a big snake lying inside water pool near tree top.
best place to experience wilderness in Goa and if you get lucky ..you may even spot a deer or the majestic indian bison in its royal demeanor. There are jungle trails with winding paths running among huge trees, where sun seldom does a peekaboo and you get to experience peaceful chaos of the jungle, you can evasdrop on the gossip of birds..pesky laughter of the langoors..and many other noises that make you wonder who is calling out to you, unless you can speak the tongue ;) A car or bike can go to a certain distance and after that you need to trek inside jungle for a 1.5 odd kms to a treetop watchtower next to a small lake nestled among trees, and patience can gift you amazing sights of the beautiful beasts and the winged artisans. Also further 4.5kms leads you to a artificial lake which is visited by many inhabitants to quench their thirsts and share some fun frolick..you can also see pug marks and footprints to see who n all visit here..Also look out for some porcupine darts ..who may leave some for you on the trail. It's recommended to start out early at 7am and then you won't realise how time has gone by ..for lunch there aren't any places nearby hence it's advisable to call beforehand and inform about your visit so the canteen can have your lunch ready for you on arrival.By 1730hrs one needs to wind up and call it a day since that's the official timeout and then go around in the butterfly garden and relax..Overall the place is blissful and leaves you wanting for more..Please avoid leaving any trash trail in the forest and only responsible people should visit. Nature lovers are more than welcome here..
cool and charming place. quiet. no rush of tourists. you can drive through the forest . a few picnic spots like tree house and a park is there for which you have to park your vehicle and trek for about 1 km through the forest. scenic and peaceful place.
Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary was more of a wilderness drive. They have a few trails on the side of the road if you wanted to try and see some animals. We walked in through the sanctuary for 4kms in and 4kms out and we didn't see one animal. We spotted a spider at the tree top and some butterflies there as well. It was a beautiful walk and beautiful drive, I'm just not sure if you would see any animals. If it was just a forest reservation and not named a wildlife sanctuary then I'd probably give it 5 stars. But it got my hopes up thinking I was going to see an animal.
Road is drivable upto 2kms from entry point. No guide is available, once you enter the sanctuary you will be on your own.
We went in July in monsoon season. Our driver didn't want to drive down the dirt roads. We didn't see any animals and the route to the tree top was closed off due to fallen trees. If you go expecting it to be a nice walk in a forest that would be better than thinking you'll see wildlife. The waterfall nearby kuskem is much more impressive in monsoon season
The entrance leads to the front desk, where one can make payment for the entry fee for butterfly park and forest trail. There's separate payment for taking your vehicle to the forest.
It was nice and not crowded place. you can drive through the forest but there was not much to do or see after first 10 mins. I don't think this is worth going to see regular trees unless you don't have anything else to do. Also note that you loose your phone network even before the entrance gate so you are left without any communication medium or a way to call the cab if you want.
