Located amidst imposing mountains in Karnataka with a perpetually misty landscape, Coorg is a popular coffee producing hill station. It is popular for its beautiful green hills and the streams cutting right through them. It also stands as a popular destination because of its culture and people. The Kodavas, a local clan specializing in martial arts, are especially notable for their keen hospitality. Coorg, officially known as Kodagu, is the most affluent hill station in Karnataka. It is well known for its breathtakingly exotic scenery and lush greenery. Forest covered hills, spice and coffee plantations only add to the landscape

Coorg - Kodagu or more fondly Coorg is a rural district in the beautiful state of Karnataka in the Western Ghats. It is one of the most popular hill stations in the south, and is often called Scotland Of India. It lies about 1525m above sea level and is a preferred summer retreat. It is well known for its coffee, with several estates growing the crop, it is also a great adventure destination for trekking, camping, white water rafting lovers. My visit to Coorg was way back in 2005 with a bunch of friends, and we had got only a weekend to explore the wonders of Coorg. We managed to do justice, but there were a few regrets, and I should make a trip to this wonderland soon. We covered the below destinations in the only weekend that we had, - Talacauvery - Bhagamandala or Triveni Sangam [of Kaveri, Kannike and (mythical) Sujyot] - Namdroling Tibetan settlement - Raja's Seat - Dubare Elephant Camp - Abbey Falls My biggest fascination in that entire trip was the Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery, my heart stopped when I opened the red doors and entered the monastery to see the three large statues. Absolutely awestruck at the immense size and the intricate details of the sculptures. It was a moment where I was transported into a world filled with peace, and calm. It was just beautiful to sit and watch and observe the little monks in their own world of childishness and the serenity of the other monks. My biggest regret of my visit in 2005 is not spending time to understand the rich culture of the local Kodava community, their customs, and most importantly their food. It is a perfect escape to anyone who is tumbling in the corporate concrete jungle, with its cascading hills, mesmerizing waterfalls, abundant flora and fauna, for those who love to reduce the pace and also a destination for adventure junkies.
Coorg is for a reason called the Scotland of India, it's stunning, lush-green and offers great places for sight seeing.
So nice place. Heaven. Coorg is a tranquil, little town in Southern Karnataka, cradled in the Western Ghats. It is famous mainly for its austere sights, varied wildlife, world-class coffee and the Kodavas, the ethnic warrior people of Coorg. Although Coorg is a year-round destination, the best time to visit this place is the span from October to April. March and April are the months when travellers will enjoy the beauty of the place with shrouded valleys. It is recommended to avoid the span from June to September because of heavy rainfall over there. The Coorg State came into being on 26 January 1950 as per the Constitution of India. Prior to the enactment of the Constitution, Coorg had been a province of the Dominion of India. The first legislative elections in Coorg were held in 1952. The main contenders were the Indian national Congress led in the state by c m Poonacha and the Takkadi party led by the Gandhian Pandyanda Belliappa. While the Congress supported merger with the neighbouring Mysore State, the Takkadi party fought the election on an anti-merger plank. The Indian National Congress won a majority of 15 seats while the Takkadi party bagged the remaining nine seats.
