Commemorative Obelisk - Featured Reviews (235)
The Memorial was built by the Government of Mysore during the reign of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar in 1907, to celebrate the defeat of Tipu in 1799. It marks the memory of the British officers and native soldiers who lost their lives during the siege of Srirangapatna on 4 May 1799 during the last Fourth Anglo-Mysore war fought during 1798-99
Very nice place to visit, most of the people will not visit this place. Our tourism department should maintain cleanliness & provide big route maps.
It's a secluded place, not maintained. But scenery is beautiful.
Overlooking the caveri river, the obelisk is a must visit place . Not many tourists visit the place..The road to the entrance is narrow
If you are planning for Mysore trip, should spend time to explore srirangapattana, where you must visit 1. Obelisk It is a memorial erected by the then government of Mysore in memory of the English soldiers died during the siege of Srirangapatna. 2. Colonel Bailey's Dungeon It was the place where Tipu Sultan used to imprison all the British officers. 3.Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple 4. Lal Mahal, tippus palace 5. Tippus death palace - where the tippus body was found 6. Jumma masjid 7. Daria Daulat Bagh Also called tippus summer palace,The palace is built in the Indo-Saracenic style is mostly made of teakwood 8. Tipu Sultan Gumbaz The Gumbaz is an impeccably detailed mausoleum and houses the remains of Tipu Sultan, his father Hyder Ali and his mother Fatima Begum among beautifully manicured gardens
All stars for this historical marker and a massive disappointment for ASI to maintain this area in shambles. Part of the larger Srirangapatinam historical complex and fort town, the obelisk was erected as a sycophant move by the erstwhile Mysore administration for commemorating the siege of Srirangapatinam by the British Forces which allowed the reinstalling of the Wodeyar dynasty as administrators of this principality. Access road condition is fairly ok except for the last 200 m. Stretch which is unpaved. Nothing much in the name of a main gate and maintenance of the actual access walking pathway to the main structure. Delhi Gate monument (or whatever is left of it) is right in the vicinity. A peaceful spot, be careful of selfie seekers and potential safety concerns if here post twilight. The only security guard around, was busy napping away in broad daylight.
Great view of the Kaveri river which is splitting up to create the island of the town "Srirangapatna". You may find high water level during the rainy season or when the dam opens. Great for families or to take a walk with friends. The place is also not too crowded. There is no entrance fee.
This place is so peaceful. Not even a single person was there when i visited this place. From this we can see some scenery, River and bridges. Filled with greenary
