Cochin Harbour Terminus - Train station in Kochi - Ernakulam, India

First and foremost "KOCHI" is not just a location but it's a combination of "FEELINGS" YEAH!! I love the old railway stations more than any other modes of transportation, so I visited this historic railway station which is located on the Willingdon Island but I didn't feel much old there because it just renovated for the new services to Ernakulam Junction station and this station opened in the year 1943 and this terminus is the main station that connects to the southern segment of the Port of Kochi in the Willingdon Island as well, and now this station is mainly used for the offline ticket reservation and all and the ambience is just nostalgic,calm and quiet as well as peace and whole people want this station back with full swing in the future, hope. The Harbour Terminus is blessed the war horse 'EIR 21', 164 years old but still in service, it's just something else.

Southern Railways must restart all the outstation trains that were previously originating from Cochin Harbour Terminus again from Cochin Harbour Terminus itself, as we want the Cochin Harbour Terminus to be the starting point of many outstation trains, as it was in the past. This can be done if the Southern Railway takes the initiative to restart it again and also if there is a public demand, but as there is no demand from any people this station does not operate any outstation trains. People need to wake up and realize the importance of Cochin Harbour Terminus in operating outstation trains and also how dazzling & active this station was once upon a time! Time is not lost it can still start operating outstation trains again & it can be converted to a major hub. Had I been working for Southern Railways or been a part of the Indian Railways planning commission then I would not waste any time in restarting the Cochin Harbour Terminus by operating many outstation trains from this station. Because what is wrong in restarting the outstation trains from this station again? I see nothing wrong but still people are okay with the current situation and not raising any voice which has ultimately led to the neglect of Cochin Harbour Terminus.

One of the famous landmarks of old Cochin city. Used to be a bustling railway station. The lifeline of people working in Wellington Island. Later succumbed to ruins and neglect. And was limited to only goods trains. Now proper renovation works is on the way.

The one and only railway station in south kochi. Not for passengers, only for goods. Lots of goods train arrives here intermediatley. Since the shipping process and goods transportation is the main activity here only goods train is running now. But on old times, passenger trains were also active. Basic facilities are available. Shelter is there for bad weathers.

Cochin Harbour Terminus (CHTS) is one of the railway stations in the city of Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. It is located on the Willingdon Island. The Cochin Harbour Terminus is the principal station providing rail connectivity to the southern segment of the Port of Kochi located on the Willingdon Island. (Catering to the northern segment of the port located on Vallarpadam, is a separate rail-route and an exclusive container station). And hence it mainly handles goods transport in and out of the Kochi Port. Cochin Harbour Terminus railway station is not in use after the commissioning of Vallarpadam container terminus. The station is now locked and all the trains to this station from Ernakulam Junction were stopped in 2013.

There used to be trains to Cochin Harbour earlier. The last time I visited on a train to this place must be in 1992 from Bangalore. Even those times, I used to be the only traveller in the entire bogey from mainland Ernakulam Station. Now there are no trains to this place from Bangalore. I think the station might not be working. Why I've given this place a 4 stars: The travel through the railway bridge, running parallel to the road bridge, was scary, noisy, shaky, nostalgic, and felt like a real train of the olde, rumbling through the tracks. The first and only train from Bangalore to Kerala- The Island Express, got its name from these islands, and this station was the terminus point. To see major landmarks of Kochi, like Willingdon's Harbour and the huge ships, Navy Area, the old Cochin Airport, Malabar Hotel, tourism board, .... cheap boat rides... one had to be here. Now things have changed a lot and modernised, but still retains some of its old-world charm.

Abandoned railway station, train number 16525, Island express to Bangalore, originated from this station, and hence that name for the train. Now renovated and used by military as an office. Can visit the railway station and see the rails and platforms, but no entry to 2 of the the military rooms.
