Clock Tower - Historical landmark in Dehradun - Dehradun, India

One of the famous tourist spots in Dehradun city is the Clock Tower, also known as Ghanta Ghar locally. It is a large and iconic building with six clocks installed on different sides and is majorly used as a landmark. Inaugurated in 1953, the Clock Tower is one of the oldest buildings in the city. Dont forget to eat ice cream at famous Gaylords. You can see major commercial activities around it and buzz of the bazars. Its intersection point to Rajpur road, prince chowk, paltan bazar and Chakrata road. Trivia - This iconic place holds back a long history. The foundation was laid by Sarojini Naidu and was later inaugurated by Lal bahadur shastri, was built to commemorate India's independence.It has a unique hexagonal architecture lending it heritage value. One can see the names of freedom fighters engraved in gold plaque all over its surface.

The area around clock tower is bit crowded. You will get the direct city bus for FRI, Tapkeshwar Mahadev mandir, Dehradun Zoo ( Malsi Dear park) and for other places also in just Rs20-50 (depends on the distance) . Paltan bazar is situated just in front of the clock tower and goes upto Dehradun Railway Station.

Very scenic and beautiful tower just in front of the paltan Bazaar. The lovely part was that it brings a lovely sound when an hour gets completed . I could capture the pictures which looks so mesmerizing

Not up to my expectations. However the market area close to the tower is very good. You can really get great clothes at a very less price. Also it was nice to have a tea sitting at the corner of a footpath, enjoying sun and chill wind, waiting for the bell to ring. Kind of nostalgic.

Good place to go for shopping. Lot of crowd and lot of shops for a regular city shopping. All shops are with saffron boards. Kind of good look n feel to see a uniform boards. Specially with saffron color. All items available for commoners.
