Chunchi Falls - Featured Reviews (1260)
Nice place for a shot weekend trip. Roads from Bangalore are good for the most part except around last 1km. Ample parking is available for cars and motorcycles. There's a short walk and trek required to reach the falls from parking. It is not too difficult, but recommended to wear good shoes since some parts of the trail is full of dust and loose gravel. The main waterfall can be seen from a distance, you can go near the falls with a guide. When we reached guards were not allowing people to go near the falls on their own. An added attraction is last few kilometers of the road towards the falls. There's a nice place where you can sit and have a view of the hills at a distance.
Here is my honest review, 1. Its not for family - strictly No You will have to trek a lot. 2. There is hardly much water most of the year- this was second visit. 3. Guard will take bribe of 300-400 rs per person to go near the water, if not just need to see the waterfall and come back like Shivasamudra Do not go by other reviews. You will regret if you are planning to bathe there as water is less and it's extremely difficult to reach near waterfall where you can bathe that also paying a bribe.
I recently visited a hidden gem of a waterfall near Bengaluru that was absolutely worth the 15 minute trek. The journey itself was enjoyable, leading through lush greenery and a pleasant trail. Upon reaching the waterfall, the sight was breathtaking - a pristine cascade of water surrounded by the tranquility of nature. What made the experience even more delightful was the delicious Maggi available after completing the trek. The combination of the cool waterfall breeze and the warm Maggi created a comforting and rejuvenating atmosphere. This hidden treasure is a perfect getaway for those seeking a quick nature retreat with a touch of adventure and a satisfying treat at the end.
Chunchi falls is one of the closest water falls near to Bangalore. If you want to go for a one day trip, it's the best place to visit. We visited this place in the month of June. There is good space for parking (and they charged Rs.10/- for a two wheeler). From parking, there is an easy Trek of 1.5 - 2 km after which you would reach view point of the chunchi falls. There are some local guards who will take you down near the falls but you have to pay Rs.250/- per person. I think you can go without the guards and try (but not sure as we didn't try). But suggest going with the guards if you are visiting for the first time.
If you are adventurous and love waterfalls then this place is worth visiting. But you will have to check as to when there will be water. It is a small hike to the waterfalls and once you reach down the guide there will help you to go to different places near the waterfalls where you can take bath and spend your time in the water. There is a stall at the entaerance once you come back up you can have some maggie or have some fruits in the shop.
On the way to Mekedatu We visited Chunchi falls , Nice weather was there when I visited .Only vehicle parking charges will be there 30 Rs for 4 wheeler. After parking Trekked for 10 minutes to see the falls, and took pineapple salad (100 RS). Be careful while you taking pictures.
Very nice and scenic view. Less water now in off season, but enough to look beautiful as a fine waterfall like in pictures. You will love it in rainy season though, when falls will be in full glory and river flows full too. In fact, in earlier times (15 years ago) Chunchi falls were the two falls in the starting point(not noticeable now due to no water). Now, because of some water, this falls is called Chunchi falls. After parking, you need to walk 6-10 mins (normal decent while going, but little steep ascent while returning back), upon which you can reach a place like platform from where you can view this. This is the last place from where descending down to waterfall is prohibited and with permission and with guide though, you can go down. You can get to buy water, soft drinks, buttermilk, churmuri, cucumber and some biscuits in small shops (4-5 shops are there) while descending.
Went for a day trip to Chunchi Falls. I was very reluctant to go there, as I was under the impression that final few kms. to chunchi falls, driving would be tough because of hilly region. But my doubts were wrong, as most of the trip till parking area was smooth and after parking, you have to trek all the way to falls. Falls was amazing after a hard trek. You can spend time there sitting on rocks and experiencing the falls view. falls had enough water and mesmerizing view. You can spend half day there and then plan to go to Sangama , not very far from here.Refreshment shops are available all the way.If want to swim need to trek all the way down and need to get permission from the local guide.
