Must visit place in Mudubidre. There's a guide who can explain the significance and artifacts carved on the wooden pillars inside the palace. However don't expect too much from this site. This is not like Mysore or Rajpoot Kingdom palace. A medium sized house used by Chowta Kings during their ruling. If you are history and architecture lover then only you will find this place interesting
Very less known place for travellers, it's simple yet beautiful palace with finely crafted wodden doors and sculptured pillars.
This is a place you should not skip in your itiinerary. Once you enter the premises, head to the right side, which is where you will find the palace that is open to tourists, as the house on the left side is occupied by its residents and is private. The 'palace' itself is reallly small, with just a courtyard to see. There are chambers that were once used as storage spaces. There is a 'diwan-i-aam' kind of space which used to be the meeting area for the ruler. But what you need to admire are the pillars and the history of the palace. The pillars are made of jackfruit tree wood and are so intricately carved with breathtaking artistry. Some of the details are extremely well-preserved, while others have been destroyed by a black paint painted over them, in an attempt to, ironically, preserve them! There is a list of the rulers at the entrance, which were majority women. And the history of this royal family goes back to the 1100s! That is some impressive history that is hardly known, so I highly recommend a visit to this place as it deserves greater recognition. As it is a small place, it would take only about half an hour of your time.
Moodbidri chowter palace is badly maintained by archeology department of India as I saw.The ant's attacks on old monuments are neglected. The carvings are painted to loose originality. Boundary wall collapsed. Full of bushes background and around. Aane bagilu Board teared. The structure of aane bagilu spoiled by visitors by chissiling names on Walls. A bats residing banyan tree of thousand year old outside and adding history cut and no sign.
Recommend to keep it as a last visit . The employee kept on looking at us if we were taking photos or videos/ reels. Its a property owned by the government , but the behaviour of the watchman was rude. He kept on spying on us. He even asked us to get out of the palace thinking that we were taking videos and uploading even though we were not. He told the Chowta family would not approve of anyone taking photos or videos. Good artistry on pillars. Poorly maintained courtyard. Not a must visit.
There's not much to see here other than the one open courtyard type structure. But it has good artistry on the pillars. It was empty when I got there so it was very quiet to check out.
We aren't able to go inside as it's a monument which is kept untouched by Archeological dept.
Good, The guide over there explained everything about the palace.
