PEACEFUL n GREEN, very neat n clean, comfortable, with a very big compoud with a very mesmerizing surrouding view n location. Baby elephants & Tuskers are clearly visible inside their shelters from the guest house. Food will be available according to the raw material availability. Tea is available all the time. Just opposite to Chilla Range Forest entry gate and at a very same point of Jungle Safari Car Parking. One must visit n stay with family for sure. To take a lifetime experience of Flora n Fauna of Uttrakhand especially Asian Elephants.
I've spent 2 nights in the Chilla Forest Rest House and now I'm heading to Motichoor Forest Rest House for 1 more night. Chilla Range is the best in Rajaji Tiger Reserve and the FRH is located very close to the entrance of the Reserve. Place is very peaceful and has GMVN restaurant located not very far from here and there is a canteen close-by too. The booking office for safaris is also close-by.
This rest house is about 300meter from main road.dear , peacock,jackle is seen inside the premises as per locals but we have seen dears in huge numbers beside road.A Leopard is often seen sitting on the boundary wall.But heard a lot about the tusker elephant .even locals avoid coming out at night.Tuskers are the most ferocious animals of the jungle.Rajaji jungle safari is closed till 15Nov as per report.but one can opt for jilmil about 70km away in buffer zone which is ideally costing 2k for a jeep.There is no guarantee of sighting tiger leopard or elephant but other animals are easily visible.it gives a good safari satisfaction as per the visiters.there is one shop nearby where Tshirt and others with Rajaji emblem can be bought.there is a good place to stay nearby about 500metres of Garwal mandal vikas nigam where loghut ,tent ,and other natural facilities of staying is available but very costly.
One odd part about Rest house is the food .they gave option to have meals from GMVN which is ideally impossible to walk 1/2 km for every meal.and risky at dinner time.
But they managed to cook for us finally after conversation.Auto charges from hardwar to chilla FRH is about 600rupees for 10km.
Finally a big thanks to The Van Vibhag for a pleasant stay in the woumb of the Jungle.
It was an awesome experience to visit Rajaji National Park after a span of about 30 years. The forest and wildlife has improved a lot. Such a wide variety of birds, herbivores and carnivores in the region that it was beyond imagination when Gujjars used to dwel inside this forest. Did night halt in Chila Forest Rest House, which is a heritage building of 1883,meaning thereby that its just 135 odd years old and beautifully maintained. Uttarakhand Forest Department has done really wonders in preserving the nature and area just at the doorstep of Holy City - Haridwar.
No doubt that this place is now one of my favourite in Uttrakhand. If you love to spend your night in Jungle then never miss out this Rest House. Amazing food, bon fire, surrounding and near to River Ganga.

An 1885 bungalow with British architecture. Very well maintained and very spacious. Not available for tourists, only for forest department use.
Amazing place..dense vegetation of rajaji around rest house and animals like chital, elephant and tiger sharing your backyard will mesmerise you.

The Dam is quite good! However, we didn't get permission to go near the dam by the army. But yes, there's a path that goes up a bit in elevation from where you can see the dam, and you get a beautiful view from there.

The rooms were very cozy and the atmosphere was really peaceful away from the crowds of haridwar. There are more activities to do which are very interesting. Amazing place to stay in.
