The century-old temple is located in the forest beside a small charming river named Dulung. Several rare species of trees, birds and monkeys can be seen here. The forest is home to 433 types of medicinal and rare plants. It is also home to several species of animals including amphibians, birds, monkeys, butterfies, and reptiles among others. There is a huge population of Langurs in the vicinity. They are harmless although having food in front of them can lead to snatching.
Superb place to sit and relax. They have many different species of trees and plants. Trees have a info board with its species information. Earlier they had boating here, now its closed. Be ware of monkeys. They don't hurt directly but they can snatch food items from you.
The Chilkigarh "Kanakdurga" temple is surrounded by a deep forest that is almost like a rain forest. This forest is known as "Kanak Aranya". The river "Dulung" flows through this forest. This forest land is a protected sanctuary declared by the Government of West Bengal. There are hundreds of different types of plants here. There are many herbs. There are numerous monkeys and various species of birds, butterflies, snakes etc. in the forest. In the middle of the forest is the temple of Goddess "Kanakdurga" founded by the "Dhabaldev" dynasty.
