Chet Singh Ghat - Religious destination in Varanasi - Varanasi, India

This is one of the most important and historical significant ghat of Varanasi. This is just not a ghat once upon a time it was a fort of the king Chet Singh. He used this fort to fight with the british. The reflection of lights on the river Ganges, during the evening hours is worth experiencing too. Any people can come here any time and enjoy spirituality and happiness. There is no sufficient light at night. So the night vision is dark. The ghat is clean.

This ghat is dominated by the imposing palace named after Maharaja Chet Singh, the illegitimate son of the first Maharaja of Banaras, Balwant Singh. Chet Singh managed to secure his succession by over Mahip Narayan Singh by bribing the Nawab of Awadh. Governor General Warren Hastings succeeded Chet Singh, resulting in a fierce battle here in 1781. Whilst the fighting ensued outside the palace, Chet Singh made his escape by climbing out of a window and lowering himself down using a makeshift rope of unraveled turbans tied together. The ghat was originally known as Khirki Ghat, and was renovated by the State Government in 1958.

One of the best ghat in the bank of the Ganga at Varanasi. Beautiful structure and wonderful beauty of the fort of Chet Singh. But this is very dark at night. More light should be implemented here.
