Hypaethral temple - a building with no roof and with columns forming a partial wall. One of the few around the world. There are (depending on where you read 16 such temples in India) this is the largest. Reaching : beyond be dhuandhar falls follow Maps Note: High stone steps about 70 or so, elders be warned. Parking : on the road , go a little ahead the road opens a bit. Facilities: drinking water nothing much else. Admire the beauty of the sculptures or what is left. Sad that some cultures do this to others. Only two yogini faces are still intact, imagine if all were intact. I spent 2 hours looking at these.

Good Temple, nice ambient near narmada River. Mainly dedicated to Goddess Durga, the Chausath Yogini Temple was built in the 10th century by the Kalachuris kings, and it still stands tall atop a hill, enticing tourists and devotees from different parts of India. As the name ('Chausath' meaning sixty-four) suggests, the temple has 64 shrines built along the walls of its circular premises, each containing a carved figure of a Yogini, and a central shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

The Chausath Yogini Temple, Bhedaghat, also called the Golaki Math ("circular lodge"),is one of India's yogini temples, but exceptionally it has shrines for 81 rather than the usual 64 yoginis. All the same, scholars include it among the 64-yogini temples (cauNstth chausath meaning 64 ). The group of 81 (ekashi in Hindi) is a mark of royalty, implying that the temple was founded by a king. The large temple is on a hilltop above the river Narmada in Bhedaghat (Hindi bhedd'aaghaatt, also transliterated Bheraghat), some 5 km from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

This ancient temple, dedicated to the 64 yoginis or female deities, offers a mesmerizing journey into history and spirituality. The temple's intricate carvings and sculptures, depicting the individuality and power of each yogini, create an atmosphere filled with mystique and divine grace. Surrounded by lush greenery, visiting this well-maintained temple is a peaceful retreat where one can connect with the spiritual vibrations, engage in meditation, and find solace from the hectic world outside.
