Chatter Box Hostel - Backpacker Hostel in Varanasi - Varanasi, India

A lovely little spot. Like most of the hostels in Varanasi, small and quaint. My room was very small and shared with one other in bunk beds...but the price was right. Reasonably clean (India clean), beds were comfortable, staff was helpful and friendly. Quiet for sleeping at night and early morning.

My wife and I stayed at chatterbox for nearly a week while in Varanasi. The place has soul and is run by super friendly staff, while the owner has the attention to detail that really sets this place apart from other hostels. There is a nice rooftop view. We had a private room with comfy beds and clean sheets, good natural light and (even more important) the best indoor lighting we've yet to experience in India. No flourescent bare bulbs! ! Unfortunately we both fell quite ill during our stay, but we were grateful to have been sick in this room. The staff was also very caring during this time. It's a relatively new hostel and I only expect it to improve with time.

The place was clean, the internet worked well, young women at the reception was very friendly. The entrance and the place was a bit difficult to find but people in the street helped to find it. The breakfast is like everywhere: egg/omelette and toast. The view and terrace is nice but similar to other places. They helped us to get a taxi to the airport but charged 70% on top of the standard price, a nice commission for them.

A friendly hostel with clean rooms, a decent complimentary breakfast (tea/coffee, omelette, butter, jam and bananas) and a rooftop terrace with a nice view over the Ganga and the city. As with many things in Varanasi, the hostel can be a little hard to find but it is well located for reaching the Ghats and some tourist-friendly cafes, shops and restaurants. During our stay in early May, we booked into a non-A/C room and it was very, very hot. I recommend spending a little extra for A/C during the hot season as we struggled to sleep.

Awful, they don't clean at all, even though they say they do, I made them sweep the floor the day I arrived because there was a cigarette butt on the floor with Ash around it (nice) and there was at least a months worth of dirt and hair. It needs a bloody good clean. I'm pretty sure they didn't change the sheets either, but they was adament that they did! she said we change every 2 days, but I was there 4 nights and hey didn't clean the room once or change the sheets in that time. Only reason I didn't move after 2 days was because I wasn't feeling well, otherwise I wouldn't have stayed there.

We have booked and paid another hostel nearby (Bunkedup) and when we just arrived, they told us it was not possible to stay there and make the refund. :/ We moved to Charter Box Hostel and it was the best thing that we have done!! :) We love the hostel: it's central and near the main things that we might need, calm (because the entrance it's not in the main street) and multicultural because of guests. The staff is very helpful, always with smile at their faces. I felt like home. The rooms are clean with good light and clean sheets: they have a bathroom outside (like in every place in India) with toilet, shower and warm water. We have been in two diferent rooms: the first one was smaller (single beds) and the second was a bit bigger because it was a Private room: great area with big bed, balcony with hand washer outside toilet, blower at all rooms. The breakfast is a nice way to start our day. Toast with or without jam, dark coffee or with milk, and fruit. It's prepared and served at the terrace, the best place of the hostel because of the amazing view for the river and Varanasi terraces. Charter Box Hostel also provides safe drinking water system that we can use to refill our bottles. It's possible to book sunrise/sunset Boat Tour with staff. They have the best tips of places to visit, to eat or to experience. Thank you for the piece of chocolate cake to celebrate my 30th birthday. Rooms are kind of ok the bathroom is on the balconie and a renovation would be helpful. View to the Ganga river is nice but the Terrasse doesn't really look like on the picture

Chatter Box is a nice guest house in the touristic centre of Varanasi. The included breakfast was simple but very well cooked and the staff is really nice and accomodating. Good place to stop by in Varanasi.
