Chaliyapuram Reserve Forest - National forest in Vettathur, Vazhakkad - Malappuram, India

The only reserve forest in Vazhakkad grama panchayath. It is preserved under the kerala forest department. It situated besides the river Chaliyar and it has different kinds of fona and flora, especially the birds. There no presence of wild animals reported yet. Some types of venomous snakes are found

In my knowledge this is the only reserve forest in Vazhakkad panchayath and the diversity of it is kept undamaged by the people nearby and the visitors of this area. Panchayath has implemented a park near to this and a boat service and all, but now a days it is almost dead, but people nearby are using the location as football ground and visitors still can utilise the seating arrangement and some of the equipment's in the park. River chaliyar is always having great amount of water in it due to the shutters available at kavanakallu regulator cum bridge, oorkkadav and the availability of water keeps the forest green and green again. Only problem faced by this area is large amount of sand is collected from here by people without permission of panchayath and other authorities and that caused sudden depths at the bottom of river and mud at the bottom and that caused death of some persons visited here for their vacation enjoyments. And more amount of moral policing is there, people nearby used to collect and sell sand from the river in the night and keep rest on the day time and on the time of 6 'O' clock and all they will reach the river side to act as moral police. So be careful. The nature is clean calm and enjoyable, but people are always animals.
