Cavalry Tank Museum - Museum in Ahmednagar - Ahmednagar, India

This is an open museum not far from Ahmednagar city where tanks from various counties including Pakistan have been displayed. This is open to public and there are nominal entry charges. Some of the tanks are the captured ones by our nation. Some of the tanks are from WW1 and WW2 as well. The place is very well maintained. There is also a guide available who is quite useful. There are a couple of hallways as well. One should not miss visiting this museum.

CAVALRY TANK MUSEUM ASIA'S FIRST TANK MUSEUM THE CAVALRY TANK MUSEUM was established by THE ARMOURED CORPS CENTRE AND SCHOOL (ACC&S), AHMEDNAGAR, in February 1994. Set Amongst pristine laiwns, it is the only museum of its kind in Asia which houses above fifty exhibits of vintage armoured fighting vehicles. The oldest exhibit is the 'Silver Ghost' Rolls Royce armoured car, which entered service in 1914. The older exhibits date to WORLD WAR I vintage, and saw service on the battlefields of CAMBRAI, SOMME AND FLANDERS. A large number of vehicles are from the WORLD WAR II period. The newer exhibits having seen active service during the 1965 and the 1971 wars. The newest exhibit is the 'VIJAYANTA' tank, after many memorable years as on of the main workhorses of the Indian armoured corps.

Good place if you want to see old tanks used. You will witness many old tanks. The only problem is reaching there if you are not on your personal vehicle. Hire a cab and auto and ask them to wait there. You are not allowed to take eatables inside. There is a canteen inside but they keep it close in the afternoon for atleast 2 hours and nobody is there to provide you eatables.

It has very good collection of WW1 and WW2 tanks, including our Indian centurion and vijayanata tanks. But no exhibition of modern under service tanks. You can also buy souvenirs like books and badges. Please note that it opens only twice a year on 15th August and 26th January. It remains closed to public on all other days.

While traveling to Ahmednagar i visited this beautiful Tank Museum. Must visit with your children, friends and family. Worth going to this place. All the tanks are real and you can get a lot of information about each tank here. Tickets have to be taken before entry. There is a garden where you can sit and enjoy nature. There is a canteen facility available inside the museum.

The whole area is under army management and therefore very safe to visit and well maintained. I wouldn't recommend visiting in the afternoon as it gets very hot even in winter. Otherwise, there are variety of vintage battle tanks to see. I wish these were accompanied by a few historical photographs which would make the entire experience even more informative. Overall, it's a must visit place for Ahmednagar.
