This is a must see house if you are visiting Goa for the first time. Orignally owned by an advocate, the house tells a nice story of how Goa was during the Portuguese time. The place showcases old tools and paraphernalia that gives a first hand look of the past. Tour starts with a nice summary (narrated by the guide) then followed by recorded playback at each stop points.
An amazing 250 years old mansion that belongs to the Alvares family 6 generations back. The mansion speaks of the rich and powerful past of the family. There are heritage lamps, kitchen utensils, wash basin structures, chairs, hat and stick stands, private Chapel and a kerosene fridge, etc. These are the things that have been used by the family in past by different generations.
The smartest way to show a lifestyle or culture of a person. It's a very good example to show how the Portuguese officials lived in Goa. The house belongs to Casa Araujo Alvares and all the artefacts have been preserved in a very good condition. Though the house may be old, they have incorporated the smart way of storytelling through speakers as we land on that part of the exhibit. A much better experience than reading through the exhibits. The place is unique and fun to spend time in there. The narration is quite informative not just about the artefacts but also speaks a lot about the culture and society during that time. I would say it's worth the visit.
