California Houseboats - Houseboat rental service in Srinagar - Srinagar, India

It was a wonderful experience in Srinagar. The staffs Shahid and Abbas catered to the needs. The boat was clean and tidy. There is a bit electricity issue but overall the experience was nice.

The houseboat is pretty nice and located in the second row facing opposite to boulevard road. The staff aboard the boat was very helpful and the food was also tasty. Overall the services provided after boarding the houseboat were upto the mark. However, the owner of the boat Mr. Rasool is a very rude person and provides incorrect and incomplete information which might result in keeping you stranded and without any help. While booking the owner assured certain services and took full money in advance however once we tried calling him after reaching the location he stopped picking our calls and finally when he called back he started shouting as in why are we trying to call him. Thereafter he was not ready to have any kind of conversation and cut the call. Reduction in rating is only and only because of the behaviour of Mr. Rasool which matters a lot in hospitality business. You can still go ahead and visit the property however do not (R) do not pay the full money in advance. First Take all the services as promised and only then pay the money to him.

Our experience was very bad. From middle of the night till check out, there was no electricity. There were no toiletries were provided with room. The manager's behaviour was very rude with all the guests who were staying. I have never seen a guest house manager behave like this.

food was not good quality, staff was not properly trained , no good menu in breakfast, smelling poha. rooms were good, location was good

Best Boathouse in the lineup in Dal Lake. The service was great especially Shahid and Abbas served us great.

I was here for 3 days in Dec 2022 with my family. The houseboat was so awesome and with great ambience. The caretakers Shahid and Gulam Nabi was taking care of every small need. The rooms were all clean and have good heating system. Thank You For This Great Experience team New California

It was a terrible experience. The staff was rude, won't do anything unless you ask 3 times. The dinner was disgusting, we had a group of 9 people so when we asked for a second helping of chicken the guy is like "We already gave a refill", as if it is we who have the wrong definition of 'unlimited' dinner. After bringing the second helping he is like "Now eat all you can" as if we were beggars asking him for free food. The food was so tasteless, that some of us just skipped dinner all together. The rice was so bad that my dad said even prisons must have better food. I asked if we would have at least bread, butter and jam for breakfast tomorrow and one of the staff said yes, the next day all we find is premade sandwiches with meager quantities of butter no doubt because the lazy staff didn't want to buy more butter. When we asked for jam, one of the staff is like we can get it but we will have to go and buy it, so do we really want it? In the end he brought some cheap jam which didn't even seem fresh. After the 10 premade sandwiches were over had to ask the guy 3 times to get more butter and bread so that we could make our own, but the staff was too busy chatting in their little room to be bothered with quick service. When they brought the bread there were 5-6 ants under the bottom slice, and 2-3 running between the slices. I will ask my brother who took the photo to upload it in a separate review or I will update it here myself if I can. The only time the staff was punctual is shutting down the lights at 12 and imposing a curfew on the guests to go back to their rooms, because the guy had to 'switch off the lights and sleep early and wake up early tomorrow'. The issues regarding charging sockets not working and no toiletries in some rooms were never fixed even after repeatedly asking many times.

Our stay (24 to 26 January 2023) at New California houseboat was a memorable one. Special thanks to Shahid and his assistant, Abbas who were very attentive to all our needs. Our day trip descending from Gulmarg was very much delayed. We were pleasantly surprised that he was waiting at the jetty to give us a shikara ride back to the houseboat. Nothing was lacking during our short stay at the houseboat. Food is commendable. Will highly recommend New California as anyone's choice of accommodation. Kuddos to you Shahid!
