Kolkata is 300 years city, but it has hiatory of 1000 years. If you want to feel this history and walk in culture then you have take this half day walk. You will see burried canon, Ip charch, Fire temple. After walk you will feel you just completed whole world cultural tour in 6 hour.

It had always been a dream to go to Calcutta, and at first I was a bit overwhelmed- it's such a dense, culturally rich city. As soon as we met with Calcutta walks though everything made sense in the city. One of the greatest places in the world, but a guide is crucial, a guide this good is worth travelling for.

We went on 4 walks whilst staying in Kolkata recently, which were all excellent. We can't recommend them too highly and helped to make our stay there memorable. Our guide, sorry "explorer"! My two Calcutta Walks tours were *the* best part of visiting Kolkata - I went on the "In the footsteps of the Raj / White Town Walk" around Dalhousie Square and the early morning "Bringing the Goddess To Earth" walk by the Ganges tributary River Hooghly, from the Flower Market to Kumartuli. In the Raj tour, I learned to spot the Raj's leftover edifices, now woven into the life of a modern Indian city, or left intentionally moldering, as India makes a break with its colonial past. See where the East India Company managed its conquest - and arguably, its pillage of India. In the Goddess tour, we saw the many ways Indians worship, from the flowers they buy to lay as tribute at their home prayer shrines, to the winding back alleys where craftsmen labor for months to build life-size and much larger statues of Durga, Ganesh and more for festivals and parades. Then I wrapped it up with deliciously strong coffee and a hearty thali at Calcutta Walks' sister enterprise, the Calcutta Bungalow, and got a great tour of the property, as I'd wanted to check it out for future visits. Recommend it highly!

Ramanuj clearly loves his city. A superb guide and the Walks were incredible. We did two- confluence of cultures and White Town. We talked and laughed and ate and drank as we walked. A wonderful company to walk with......they also tailor make the walks whenever possible. So do give them a call when in kolkata.
