History of Kankaleswari Temple: In 1330 Bengali Year, a devastating flood happened in Damodar River. In that flood, a big stone block floated on the river bank. The washermen saw it and started cleaning clothes in it. In 1332 Bengali Year, A big earthquake happened in Bengal and as a result the rock mass changed its direction and Washermen noticed it and The Ruling King of Bardhaman saved it from the river. In the month of Ashada, 1332 Bengali Year, Goddess Kali order Kamalakanta to build a temple for her in his dreams and from that time people worshipped her in this temple.
