Buraq is not in good condition

Buraq is located in Mehrauli near Jahaz Mahal and Maharaja Agrasen Park. It is a pond which is historical. Surrounding is not neat and clean and can be better maintained. It can be reached through main Mehrauli Market or from Vasant Kunj side. Nearest metro is Chhatarpur yellow line. Do not forget to visit other monuments located in Mehrauli which has got very rich heritage.

This domed pavillion like structure place with the hoof print of the Buraq was built on the one right bank corners of Hauz-i-Shamsi in 1230 AD by Sultan Shamshudin Iltumish. Legend has it that Iltumish had a dream in which he was instructed by Prophet Muhammad to build a reservoir at a place marked by the hoof print of the Buraq. Sultan Iltumish is said to have actually found the hoof print of the Buraq when he inspected the site he had seen in his dream.

This is a part of the historic Hauz-e-Shams, Mehrauli, which was built by Delhi Sultan, Shamsbuddin Iltutmish. He is the one who built Qutub Minar. He is the only King who declared his daughter Razia Sultana to succeed him.

This historical monument has been abandoned by the government bodies and is in very delapidated condition. No maintenance is being done. Its very sad to see its state.
