Bro. J. N. Foley Students' Residence - Boy's Hostel in Shillong - East Khasi Hills, India

Grateful for being a part of the Folians family. This hostel provides a great study environment with good facilities. Students learn discipline, moral values, teamwork and inbuilds a sense of self-dependency. Simply one among the best in Shillong!

First of all , we are all aware of #freedom of speech,So I will share my honest view that I have experience till now...(Since I am still in the hostel). I will share the pros and cons I have, according to my view.Also I will highlight only the key points since lack of space for complete details. I will be extremely honest Pros:- 1) Facilities are good. -24x7 electricity and water.(includng hot water) -single room each with bookself and cupboard (exeption 6 rooms are double/triple). -daily newspapers -games facilities are quite fine enough.,they provide TT,football,volleyball,basketball, cricket etc. -security is very tight. (which will make guardian/parents feel secured to their beloving sons.) 2)Food is quite good as compare to other pg,or private hostels.Ya honestly it's very good 3)It is no doubt 101% sure for nerd students, since study environment is very good.(Also slightly depends on roomate).If you want to top NEHU ,then yes this hostel will be the best. 4)Caretakers are quite good and helpful. Honestly 5)Also they will take care of you ,if you have minor illnesses and all...but if your serious your local guardian should be handling you. Cons:- 1)Sometimes you will feel like being treated as a school students, too tight and strict...College students need at least some freedom, and yes no one is asking for full freedom like hanging out night at 11pm ,12am ofcourse we are smart enough to balance our life...follow rules, stay discipline, study for ourselves, parents , teachers and for our country, being scolded for such silly reasons like peeing, filling water and many small reasons... 2)5 pm dateline!!!????seriously??? Well it may be fine for them and parents specially and some students. But can you imagine college getting over around nearly 2:30 and after that you have to do everything under limited hour ,play games,spend time with friends, afternoon nap,buy daily needs,go shopping, evening walk ,ask notes to your hostels mates take bath just within 2-3 hours,since 5:30 is the study timing. 3)Nightout!?even asking for extra half and hour (if sometimes needed like going for trip and all)to extend dateline for some personal reasons you have to take full nightout with the consultation of local guardian. Seriously even for just 30-60 mins. 3)If their is no local guardian you will not get to stay in this hostel(luckily I have),What if someone comes from very far from shillong, where will they find local guardian??? Doesn't make sense. 4)Correct me if I am wrong, but As per my knowledge college hostel should be less expensive but here it's same with other pg and all, You have to pay mess fees and some security fees,accommodations, admission so and so... Which will be more or less equivalent to pg price ,if calculated per month.(Sorry can't disclose the exact amount). Lastly: Believe me If you want freedom ,I won't recommend this hostel,(freedom doesn't mean hanging out late-night 1am, 2am)along with studies you have many more activities to do...which is not possible in this tight and strict hostel. Overall I am not happy staying here. Thanks ,hope so it will help you guys.

If you've got admission at St Edmund's College and you're looking for a nice hostel to study properly in Shillong i would highly recommend this hostel.

I spent a great time staying here.. I missed all my friends. I stayed here for only one year only. But I feel like my own home.. I got kicked out because I fail.. But thank you so much for showing me the way to success..I hope ill meet all my friends again in this life and the other.. Bye

A great place for students to stay and build mutually beneficial relationships with each other. Good security and sense of discipline along with freedom and boundaries needed by youth.

It is pleasure living here....... its good and hygienic and to be part of it.... It teach us how to live even though we may be from different places....... It help us in every way
