Bouddha Smarak, Satdhara Tapobhoomi - Featured Reviews (387)
Satdhara Buddhist Stupa situated on a hill in a calm environment is a famous philosophical place. The view of the Halali river is very beautiful from the height of the hill of this area. The place is part of a Buddhist circuit consisting of a group of stupas situated on top of a hill. There are many stupas here which are believed to be of the Maurya period. Stupa number 1 attracts us the most among these stupas. This stupa made of bricks is visible from a distance because of its colour. The dark brown colored stupa has a wide circumambulatory path around its base. It is indeed a very peaceful experience to visit this stupa amidst natural beauty. There is also a stone replica of the relic inside a stupa. The place is said to have been discovered in 1853.

This site is 8 kms from main road... approach road is good... you can enjoy couple of hours here... nearby tourist places are sanchi which is around 20 kms from satdhara and halali dam which is also around 20 kms from here.. enjoy your trip !!!
An ancient site that was established on the banks of river Sahastradhara, now known as Halali, around 2300 years ago. This place consists of series of Buddhist Stupas and Viharas that have been discovered by the British Major Cunningham during 19th Century. This place lies in the radius of Buddhist monuments that were built during the same time period as Sanchi. It lies 9 kms before Sanchi on Bhopal-Vidisha Highway that is well connected. One can reach this place on their personal vehicle. The best time to explore this place would be during or after the Monsoon. We visited it during the warm month of April and found the entire place to ourselves covered with serenity and peace.
This is a very beautiful place to visit. Full of nature. Not known by many people. Very less crowded. Even on a weekend you will find only 5-6 families at a time. This is the place where you can enjoy the beauty of the nature. So calm. Apart from being known for Buddha stupa, it is full of greenery. Approximately 25 km away from city Vidisha and 45 km away from Bhopal. must visit.
First of all, the place is secluded which is not common these days and I personally dread crowded getaways and though this place can be too secluded if you visit on a weekday, which I don't suggest. The place is huge, if you plan on seeing all the Stupas present here, I suggest wear comfortable sports shoes, besides, you may come across snakes other than probably shy monkeys. Also carry water bottles, snacks, shades, and caps, especially if it is a sunny day, though, I recommend monsoon season when you will find greenery everywhere. It is popular for it's natural beauty and historic Stupas.
Satdhara is very ancient Buddhist site relative to Sanchi. There are many stupas prior to one BC are situated and Stupa 1 is very large and old bricks stupa is open from upper side that is original. Well maintained by ASI.approach road is good.
Peaceful, serene, a landmark of historical importance. The relics of Buddha's two chief-most disciples were excavated here, which are now kept in the main Sanchi Chetiyagiri Temple.
This is a good place for hangout with the family, but keep food and drinking water with you that you will not find here. There is two way to reach this place, if you are coming from Vidisha take second right turn and catch damar road don't go by cement road it is not good.
